Ace;
  I hear he has been busy skinning cats, coyotes, and fox along with a few coon.   :wink:   He ain't as young as he used to be or as healthy, and it takes him a lot longer to set and run traps and skinning really slows him down. 8)
  He also took a part-time job installing satelite receivers.  It pays him $125 for 2 or 3 hours worth of work so he said that was pretty hard to turn down.  He don't much like it because it takes away from his trapping time but it is year round and he is doing 4 or 5 per week and that helps his sore toe and pocketbook.
  He did say to tell you that your lures just keep catching.  He even went so far as to pull a complete switch up after one coyote kept playing tag with him and he used your beaver lure on that one coyote to mess with his mind.  Pretty nice dog after he stepped in the wrong place. :eek:
  Seriously, I do find that sometimes when I have a "cagey" old yote that has been snapped at a few times in the past, a completely different smell than he is used to and a different type set will mess with his senses enough to cause him to make a bad mistake.  I made a "line" set and put the beaver lure in the center.  Something he just couldn't resist in trying to find out why the heck that smell was there and the duff lined up like that.  Hey, don't kick what works. :P

Joe:  I've had several trappers tell me they use my muskrat lure as a change-up for all animal species.  Anyway, don't get too busy to drop in everyday!  Ace

Ace;
  The first time I sniffed your muskrat lure, I suspected as much.  I am saving that for Feb.  :-)  I bet it will be a goodie for a change-up then.

I wonder if the old Aflac duck every uses a "off species" change up.  He's probably using Super All Call on them burros. :wink:

Joe:
Personally, I favor any of my three mink lure formulas as a change-up for canines or for one of those wary old coyotes that smelled the other stuff before while one of their relatives was jingleing a chain and jumping around like a fool and going no where.

Thanks Ace;
  I'll give it a try.  I have one spot where I have caught 6 coyote this season and the ones left are starting to be a little shy of my regular canine lures and I pulled off the area yesterday but will go back in about 10 days from now.  I will use your mink lures right off the bat and really yank their chains. :lol:  Remember we talked about ADAPT ADAPT ADAPT!

Got some ADC work to do for a fellow and that is why I pulled from this location.  I have several more small farms I am working.  Besides, I like to work an area hard for a few days and then give it a rest and jump back in a little later.  Sort of let the void fill back in.

By the way-- every see a European Lynx?  Dang, what an animal.  A lady called me day before yesterday and she had shot a grey fox trying to get into her rabbit pens.  When I got there, I saw the BIGGEST cat this side of a cougar.  I bet the dang thing weighs 60-70 lb.   Beautiful animal!   She lets it in the house sometimes but has to be careful and not play to hard with it.   :shock:   Wish you & your wife were close by so she could take some photos of it.

Well I'll be, run the line, skin and flesh, and two of the three the Old ones go crazy on me; DANG :shock:

I've always used a strong cat gland lure as a change up but the mink thing sounds interesting.  I wonder if it would shy these yotes of mine like a strong skunky lure does.

Asa send me an ounce of what you think is the best mink lure for this switcher-roo game...I'll try (almost) anything once. :)

Hey Duck;
  Now we really know (from your post - hang'em) who does all the fur catching around your place. :twisted:   Chet is doing good.  My guess is you stay in the truck drinking coffee or maybe getting out to take a pic or two of his catches. :eek:  :-D  :-D
  Who knows, maybe one of these days, I might be able to get out your way and let Chet teach me the finer points of snaring coyotes and you could teach me all you know about jack asses.  It might takes Chet and I a few days, but I should be able to learn all you know in a few short minutes. :twisted:

Sorry Joey, there is no way I could teach you anything more about yourself :twisted:

Come on out I'll let you skin.  Problem is, as slow as you are at skinning you won't get out of the shop to ride along much and learn from Chet :roll:

NOW NOW Guys;
  It isn't that I am catching more-- as a matter of fact, I am not getting to do as much as I want to.  Yesterday, I started installing satellite dishes at 11am and didn't get home till after 7pm.  I don't like that! :x   But I did like the pay.

Lee, is this thing with the Duck and I a "love-hate" thing like some brothers have or is it because Duck and Rascal are two old cantankerous geezers? :wink:

RdFx;
  Actually WQ does run one trap.  He runs it up and down the road.  Been dragging that poor trap around for nearly a year thinking that if he beats it up enough, it will trap on a good coat of rust and look like coyotes have really been working it over. :twisted:

Sorry to see that you fellows ran out of trappin :( .

Fishy, I guess I don't know how many traps I have out, well not with out countin :shock:

That fence is dang near empty now.  Then you have to count snares and the numbers get real crazy.  I cover alot of country in a day and with cows, Elk, Deer, Burros and horses tripin and knockin traps and snares :x  a fellow needs a bunch out.  Then you get into the "cycling" effect with coyotes and cats...well a fellow puts a lot of miles on both his truck and legs in a day.  I suppose I run 75 to 200 sets a day...maybe more.   When I get my snares out (400 or so) I can get real tired at the end of the day.  I'll say this for sure I come way out on the short end of things if you start figurin catch to set percentages :-D

There is this myth that "out west" the coyotes and cats are crawlin all over the place.  As I've said before 1 coyote per section (640 acres) is a pretty high average around here.  Cats maybe one per 3 too 5 sections in cat country.  Where into the sixth year of a drought (normal precip is around 6 inches per year we're down to around 2!) and that is stressing everything.  You can get into these "giant funnel" situations and the yotes can be more numerous but you need a pretty substantial attraction for that to work, like a river etc.

Joe look at that picture. I knew it all along  WQ uses all that scrap drags to hold down that ol rickety fence so the wind  doesnt blow it away.  Notice the little brown outhouse building with the slanty roof in background???  Thats where Wacky does his contemplating with a sears catalog....... Also noticed no carcass pile either.  Must be over at Chets place.  Say Joe  i hear you are playing around with (Dishes) again,  what does the wifey have to say about dat?????????? :shock: ......................... :?
