45colt and 454casull
« on: September 13, 2011, 06:29:57 PM »
can 45colt dies be used for loading the casull?

I use my 357mag for 357max, 44mag for 445sm, 45-70 for 45-90.

Honestly don't know.  Casull case is not all that much longer than the 45LC case.  Since I don't own Casull dies, I'll have to check it out sometime.

I shoot a 460, my cases are way too long for my 45 dies.  I do use my 460 dies to load my Casull loads, and have used it to resize 45 cases with no problems.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Yes you can, plus it will work for the 45 schofield and 460 S&W Magnum you just need to adjust the dies correctly.

I asked the same question about six or eight months ago.  I use my Lee 45 Colt dies for my 454 Cassul.  You'll find that you will need to adjust them every time you change from caliber to caliber.  Some guys here have a trick, where you insert a washer under the die, which helps make the correction for length quick but to be honest, I wish I had a second set of dies.

Keep in mind, I use Lee dies.  I had heard that some 45 Colt dies of other manufactures are short and will not accommodate the longer 454 brass.  I don't know what brands do or don't but my Lee dies do.

thanks all, that is what I thought, but wanted to hear some confirmation.

Blackhawker, I would think the longer case in the shorter die would not be a problem, but the short case in a long die would be.  I think the notes on my Lee 357mag dies said they would not work with 38sp.
