Heard a report this morning on the radio from the folks at National Geographic, (You know the head bunny huggers). They are concerned that the cross breeding of Coyotes and Eastern Wolves may have a detrimental affect on the wolf population.
Seems the wolves and Coyotes are crossing and producing hybrids. This animals are heavier jawed than Coyotes, with bigger bodies. The Hybrid is far more aggressive than a Coyote. A single Hybrid is capable of pulling a mature Deer down, and making a kill. In a pack it is possible for these animals to kill a yearling cow. Any Cow in the process of calving would be in real trouble if a pack of these Hybrids came across her. Sooner or later it's going to come about that a child will be caught by one of these animals. You say NO! I remember just a few years ago, a family was out for a walk on Elmendorf AFB. Young couple with a two year old kid. The kid was riding a Big Wheel on the bike path. The kid would run a way ahead then turn and go back past the parents for a short ways then turn and catch up and pass the parents again. Well on one of his turns while ahead of the parents a Coyote ran out of the woods bordering the path, and grabbed the kid. The Coyote was trying to drag the kid into the woods. The father ran forward and picked up a stick. The Coyote knowing the father was too big to confront, turned the kid loose and ran. Now how about a more aggressive Hybrid, will it drop the kid and run? Or will it fight? What if the hybrids are in a pack? Remember two years ago we lost a Teacher to wolves. They killed and ate her. Give them time, the Hybrids will learn Humans are just another source of protein. Easier to kill than Deer.
