38/55 reoloading question
« on: September 14, 2011, 10:56:17 AM »
Anyone know where I can get a set of reloading dies and starline brass for a 38/55. I really only need the depriming/resizing die but i don't think I can purchase just that.

There are a couple of different lengths of 38-55 brass, my H&R will not chamber the 'long' version which is intended for the old, longer original chambers. I have also used fire formed 30-30 cases with success. They end up even shorter than the short 38-55s (current Win. production) but I can seat the bullet where I want.
Some dies you can buy separately from Midway, but I sure would check your notion against their price on a complete new LEE set.

Thanks, I noticed that the shorter starline are out of stock until next year. I was wondering about the length. Thanks for the info. Your right about the difference in price. Think I'll get the complete die set. thanks for your input

If this is the barrel I worked on, you can use the long Starline brass just fine, it's been neck reamed.  ;)

I have a 38-55 and have no problems with the stock barrel using the longer starline brass,I think it was the last year the 38-55 was made
I find with starline brass I can load lead bullet with a diameter of .381 with out any problems
