Laminate thumbhole stocks?
« on: September 14, 2011, 09:06:16 PM »
It's been awhile since I've looked for a stock.  But with my new barrel I'm looking again.  I can't seem to find anything in stock that's under 300$.  There's also Eabco, but I don't think I want to deal with them.  There are other places that can do it but it's on like a 6 month wait.

Anyone have any suggestions?  I'm used to buying stuff for 10/22s and 700s, I pick it out online order it and it's here in 3-5 days, lol.

I'm looking for red/black, blue/black, really anything that looks different than normal wood.

Thanks

Edit:  Stockystocks has horrible reviews, so I won't be using them.  Highplains seems to be pretty good, but they're pricey.  Bullberry is there as well, but again, pricey.  Both will require waits : /

So I count 4 stock makers?  Stockystocks, Highplains, Bullberry, and Eabco.

Unfortunately Boyds no longer makes stocks for the Encore : /

Edit:  I forgot to mention that when I called them they recommended Eabco, lol.

You should be able to find a good used one on an auction site or here and save money just put it in the classifieds that you want to buy one.

High Plains stocks offer thumbhole stocks.  I have a LH thumbhole and it's quite nice.

I only have a Boyds laminated stock, not thumbhole but a regular style. It's a shame that Boyds stopped making
stocks for Encores. I wouldn't be afraid to order from EABCO. I've heard that he's hard to deal with, and never had
any dealings with EA, but I have ordered only once from the company. Received the parts within a week and sale went
smooth. But like I said never talked to the boss.

Hey Lonny,
Gunstocks say they are behind at least 30 days on any TC stock.  I really don't want to put this project any further behind.  I'll give them a call Monday and see what they can do.

Stockys has a really bad reputation.  That's the only vendor aside from Eabco that carries Revolution stocks, and neither of the two carry the color i want.  I'm going to call their company tomorrow as well.  If nothing else, I'll be ordering the grey laminate from them and make due with it this year.

Pickings are really slim with the Encore unless you want to have something high end made.  Even trying to find a plain jain laminate has been difficult, the only vendor I could really find was eabco.

I ordered 2 Encore thumbhole stocks from Gunstocks Inc. and they were shipped within a week. Their website states "approx. upto 30 days. It doesnot say "atleast 30 days" BIG difference.

That's very good news, thank you for catching my misreading there.  I'll give them a call Monday and see what the wait time is.  1 week would be perfect.  From the description tab, it looks like the stocks require a little extra work plus a finish, is that correct?  I don't think I can beat the price though.  Did you go with a standard LOP?  What buttpad did you go with?

Also, what seems to be the difference between the stinger and the thumbhole stocks?  The Stinger looks to me like it's not near as comfortable.

The stocks are semi-finished and do require final fit to the frame, sanding and a finish put on.
I have purchased several of the T/C stocks from Gunstocks Inc. and they will need to be fit to the frame but then so do many of the finished stocks on the market as no 2 frames are the same and to avoid the dreaded crack at the pistol grip area I would suggest properly hand fitting any T/C stock.
Most of the time I order the stocks with a Limbsaver pad installed at the standard LOP, a non standard LOP would be a special order and could take longer. I use nothing but the Stinger thumbhole stocks. The Stinger has a more vertical pistol grip and a lower thumbhole which puts your hand more inline with the trigger. Many of my customers have switched and went to the Stinger and disguarded their conventional thumbhole buttstocks because of the more comfortable feel and less felt recoil with the Stinger.

Thank you for the info.  The Stinger looks so much more uncomfortable to me, but looking at the pictures I can see what you mean about being in line with the trigger.  I'll try the Stinger out.  I'm going to give them a call today if I can get around to it.  Been a lot busier than I thought it'd be.  Sounds like a good deal though.

Thanks, I had seen that one...but it's ridiculous.  Everywhere else it's 140-50.  Eabco and StockysStocks being everywhere else, hehe.

I called Revolution.  They'd be happy to set me up with a stock in the color I want if I was kind enough to order 24 of them O.o

I'm going to order a camo model and be done with it for this year.  I think I'll order something better when I can afford to wait it out.

Thanks guys.
