Why couldn't Ruger have put a fully adjustable sight on the centerfire models? Its absence is a major downgrade on the older models. Wish I could find someone to put a 'real' sight on mine.
I have seen S&W sights attached to just about everything. Gunsmiths are putting adjustable sights on Ruger Bearcats and all sorts of guns now. Just find a gunsmith that can do the milling needed to install the rear sight and mill off the front sight. Then replace the front one with a enterchangable sight system. You will have to have a taller front sight. Sorry I can't give you any names.
You can look at what Hamilton Bowen is doing with SP 101s and J frames. They are not adjustable, but regulated by Bowen when installed.
From gunblast.com;
"This rear sight is much easier to see clearly, and the pinned front sight is very easy to pick up. The sight picture offered by this setup is precise, and the sights are as rugged and durable as any. Bowen regulates the sights in his shop to match the shooter’s chosen ammunition, but in recognition of the fact that guns can shoot to different points of aim for different shooters, both front and rear sights are interchangeable. Bowen offers five different rear sight offsets - one centered and two each left and right, allowing 1-2" windage corrections at 25 yards."

I have one, and it's like pulling fishhooks out of my pocket with that adjustable rear sight on there. It's strickly a holster gun because of that, for me. The Bowen option looks alot more slippery to me.
