New .458WM

Got my First Big Bore Rifle.  It is an Interarms Mark X in 458 Winchester Magnum.  I managed 12 factory 510gr SP's @ 2040fps before I had too much fun.
44.5"OAL, 24" barrel, approx 8.5lbs.

That's a really fun cartridge to reload.  You can get hard lead bullets pretty cheap, get'em going around 18 - 1900 fps, not too unpleasant, and anything stopping one will never know the difference.  I had a M 70 a while back, wish I still did.

Nice Rifle! My father-in-law gave me a Mauser in .458 that he built back in the late 60s, and stocked himself. I have had a ball reloading for it. Although I have only loaded full-house 500 gr loads for it thus far, I plan to throttle some back and hunt deer-black bears.
 
BTW-The first shot had mud raining down on me from the 25 yard clay backstop at the range! Quite a hammer.

They are nice rifles.  I coulda bought them from Interarms in the 1980s for $350ish.  I looked at their barrelled actions as well.  They were selling for $290.  Didn't buy either...wish I did!

I have one exactly like yours only has a synthetic stock as it is used in Alaska sometime!
Great rifle to reload! and accurate!!Good for anything from rabbits to ornery elephants. Just depends on reload configuration!!

The Mark X is a nice rifle, congratulations.
If you handload try the 400gr Speer SP or the Remington 405gr bullet for a somewhat reduced load. At about 2000 they will almost duplicate the old .450-400 load & be a bit less brutal on your shoulder.

Might ought to take a look at the 350 gr Hornady, several guys have used these on elk at around 2100-2300 fps! In my rifle they are trundling along at about 2200fps. and are accurate!!

+1 on the 350gr FP - using for my .45-70.

Are those bullets manufactured by Wisconsin Cartridge or are they Remington 405 Sp`s loaded in Wisconsin cases?

WCC loaded the ammo.  Website doesn't list if they made the 405's or Remington did. Cases are a mix (each box contains one brand only) of Speer and R-P.  It was cheap, as far as 458 goes anyway.  Hunting Shack Munitions also loads some affordable 458WM.

According to WCC they are spec'd for 2200fps which translates into ~4300 ft/lbs.  WCC's Customer Service was excellent.

Round 2

Well I finally made it back out to the range. Unfortunately the range we shot at only had benches and no standing. I fired 14rds of the WCC 405's (2200fps) from the bench before I had enough fun. Oddly the 405's were perfect in regards to POA/POI for the "fine bead" hold I use. No issues with feeding, extraction or ejection and the floorplate stayed close just like it should. Time to go to the gunsmith for that Pachmayr Decelerator.  Sorry no range pics this time.

My shooting partner was sighting in his Sako 300WSM and I lended a shoulder after he complained about the recoil and I saw him using a shot bag to soften the blow. After the 458 the 300WSM just tickles. He did take a shot with the 458 to his credit. His eyes welled up but he held in those tears.
