229 worth
« on: September 17, 2011, 12:44:59 AM »
I have a 229 in 40 cal. that is an older model, never been carried and hasn't been shot in several years. It has the box and 2 (I think they are) 12 rd mags, and Trijicon night sights.   I'm not an appraiser but I would have to say this gun is very good condition. Could someone point me in a direction to get a selling price for it?

If I had it in the pawn shop I would ask $500 to $550 for it I believe they are one of the nicest handguns Sig makes but my favorite is the 239 which is a little easier to carry concelled on a daily basis.   HTH   Jim

hey Longone

you might want to check the guns that sell on gunbroker and cabelas.com for a good indicator of pricing.

Thats kinda like asking "how much corn can I get out of my patch?"  Without seeing the patch I couldn't give you a good estimate, but we are talking guns so I will give my in-put. 8)

Assuming the gun is in excellent shape with no carry or wear marks, you have the box, papers and two mags it should go in the $500.00 range.  The 229 is an very good shooter and can be converted to .357 Sig with a drop-in barrel. Used Sig firearms seem to have dropped somewhat in price, but those in good shape still demand and get a good price. Also, check Auctionarms.com and Gunbrokers.com to get a better look at how they are selling nation wide.

For me, any time I see a classic SIG in very good condition $500 dollars means it's coming home. I wouldn't pay that for a second of most models but would for a P220, or a P226.

Unfortunately buying and selling are two different things. IMHO it is worth something like $550, you will be lucky to get $400 and $350 gets closer if you are talking to a dealer

I would get over to The Sig Forum and politely ask around to get a better feel for your geographic area.
