« on: September 19, 2011, 02:41:07 PM »
trying again to take a 10yr old runt out for a deer hunt.
cut down the barrel on 20 ga. and shortened the stock added weight and added a barrel weight to it.
still need the stock a little shorter.
So I was thinking about the ATI stock ?
funny thing is , the first time I seen one " I wondered who the *&^%  would use one of those !"

looking for thought and comments

Lots of discussions on the ATI, one just recently, buying/selling/trading isn't allowed in discussion forums, don't ask to buy here, that's what the classifieds are for.  ;)

As much as I hate the look of the ATI stock on a Handi and may puke if I see any more guns with AR style collapsable stocks shoe-horned onto them, it may be just the thing.  One reason the M4 and it's clones are the best selling rifles in America today is the adaptability to different shooters and different types of shooting.  Not so long ago, black rifles with collapsable stocks and such were considered by many to be "killers' guns" and shunned by sportsmen.  Now you see guys hunting and varminting with them.  The collapsable stock just means you can use the same gun for summer woodchucking in a t-shirt or winter coyote in a parka.  Just adjust the length of pull in a notch for the jacket.  Heck, there are some new rounds designed to bring 30-30 balistics to the AR platform  ??? .  We'll be seeing Tommy Tactical in whitetail camp soon.  Back to the 20g and the pip-squeek, put the ATI on and he'll have a gun that fits forever.  It will be an ugly little bang stick, but it will work.

I'm surprised CW hasn't chimed in on this yet. Don't do it! Especially to a 10 year old runt they increase felt recoil and can collapse with heavy recoil. Buy a youth pallet wood stock and if you still need something shorter cut it down and put a slip on limb saver recoil pad on it. make his shooting experience and his first deer hunt a positive thing.

If the kid is too small for a youth stock he must be tiny. If that's the case the 20ga. is gonna kick the hell out of him anyway. It seems like a bad situation all the way around.

I'm here!! Just reading this now...

I have three words for you... DON'T DO IT!!!

The stocks construction is SUB standard and WILL collapse under even moderate recoil. (20 Ga can recoil pretty good esp with slugs!) If a scope is used, there is a real danger of EYE REMOVAL!!! One member here had some bad scaring and almost did loose an eye form these wretched things. Personally I won't own one. But if I did I would limit the use to a RF/22H/223.  Its simply not worth the risk!

Get a youth stock or cut down a pallet wood stock for him! PM me if you need one, I think I have a couple..

So, they are constructed differently than the ones they market for shotguns?
