Hey guys I just recieved a Winchester model 70
 pre-64
Was figuring the 90's

FWIW:

"Pre-64" means "made before 1964".

The "Classic"  FW's, with CRF, were introduced in 1991.

My 6.5x55's SN is close to yours, and I know mine was made in 1991.

AFAIK, they were only chambered for a few years in 6.5x55, in the standard FW config (blue/walnut) and in stainless/walnut.

Thanks I knew it wasn't a pre 64 that's just what I've heard most people call the newer ones with controlled round feed. Mine is walnut/blued. How does yours shoot so far this one will keep 140 gr hornady softpoint inside 3/4" with 45 grs of H4831sc.  But ain't got it to shoot 140 game kings very well yet 2 will land side by side but the 3rd opens it up an inch or more.

I only shoot Norma 156gr Oryx factory loads, which it easily keeps around 3/4" @ 100yds if I do my part.

It didn't, when I bought it, though - 8" to 10" groups were more the norm, until I tweaked the bedding.

The poor bedding/accuracy was most likely the reason I was able to buy it so cheap (less than $500 w/Leupy 2x7 scope) - the original owner decided to ditch it ILO fixing it.

LOL I'd say u came out on top. Mine also has been bedded and a nice trigger job put on it by the previous owner my brother bought it from. The gone looks brand knew except one small mark on the stock. My brother never used it and I only like blued/walnut guns. So I traded him my browning a bolt 260 with synthetic stock for it. I'm sure miss that little 260 but the model 70 handles greAt and I love old cartridges

Besides that, I figured if the Scandanavians can regularly put down Moose (Elg) with the 6.5x55, it would surely do for anything I'd be shooting at in the US.  :D

Yeah if it will kill moose I'm sure these northeast MS deer won't be to difficult lol the 260 layed em in shade and i doubt u can tell the difference on game between the 260 and the swede. I feel like all I did was swap name brand guns and kept same caliber pretty much just a little more classical combination I guess
