Low Walls: Weight difference of Browning vs. Winchester
« on: September 21, 2011, 11:10:02 AM »

Dear Guys,

I could be wrong, but in looking at the Browning pistol gripped low walls made a few years ago (in .223), and comparing them to the new U.S. Repeating Arms (Winchester) low walls currently in the same caliber, it appears that the Brownings are more than a pound lighter. It think they both have 24 inch barrels.

Anyone know the reason for this weight difference?

 Thanks, Mannyrock

Hello, Mannyrock.  I am not sure about the newer Winchester..But the older Brownings had a stock that was quite hollowed out around the thru-bolt..so much so that there were quite a few cases of screwdrivers slipping, on said bolt  and going right thru side of stocks!

Can't answer the question exactly but I can refer you to a sight with some literature on the general subject of highwalls lowwalls and M-78 and the new B-78  (http://www.texas-mac.com/Articles.html). I'm guessing but barrel contours and length probably have alot to do with it. j

There has to be a difference somewhere if the weight is different since they are both made in the same factory by Miroku Firearms in Japan.
