Singe

Singe can  effect otter if you put  too much heat on it or flesh it  when putting it up dry... Wet  fleshing beam and otter pelt before fleshing..  Otter hair singe naturally  just fm sliding along on ice and snow  after they go down in primeness.  You can tell if otter are singed just by the dull look of fur with light shining on pelt.  If your not sure hold pelt up to light and look at  guard hairs standing up. If  hair is straight it is okay but if each guard hair has a curl to it at very end its singed...  If you have  the right color  (pale) singe  doesnt make a differance in price but if you have a dark otter and its singed they drop price drastically.  Also dont put otter on metal after caught in the cold, always put inside of a bag to protect fur.

Otter will also singe if you over flesh them .
If an animal activist is being mauled by a bear should we stop it , or , " let nature take its course?"

Freezing otter pelt

I have frozen untold nbrs of otter pelts and havent had them singe.  Now if you put a damp otter on  freezing metal  ive been told it singes plus can pull some hair off if you yank it off.  When i skin my otter and i dont have time to put up i lay them flat in long plastic bag flat in freezer so it freezes evenly and quickly.. When i thaw i take out of freezer and  out of bag and lay flat on cardboard on cement floor and let thaw till i can flesh properly.
