toy store 158 combo

OK Handi-holics....   I need your collective wisdom and opinion.    Stopped by my local toy store after work today.   On the shelf they had an H&R 158 combo.... 357mag/20gauge.    Finish is in what can be best described as matte nickel.  Straight grip stock, with a well handled finish.     357 barrel is the slim profile and had no visible pitting in the rifling but did have very faint "scratch" marks going across the rifling,  as if someone used a steel brush on it when cleaning.    20g barrel very pitted inside the entire length.     Both barrels are sloppy with the action open, but both lock up like a bank vault when closed.    Trigger is at about 6 lbs.   Toy store is asking $295 but they are known to haggle a bit.   
What say all???  Is it worth a second look?   thanks for any input.

Well if you look at buying all those parts here, thats about what it is worth... Isn't a great bargain, but if it is what your looking for it's worth that. Figure the .357 barrel 125.00  Pre SB1 action 60.00 stock set 65.00 Shot gun barrel 65.00 You are close to what it's worth. IF you look at it that way.  But it is already fitted for you....Just my thoughts.  thejanitor

Well, my Toy Store has a 50 yd range beside it.   I'll go back this weekend and see if they will let me give the combo a test run on paper targets.     If it shoots well then I'll probably get it. 
I would still welcome any input from those of you knowledgable about the Model 158.

i have one of those light contour 357 barrels. Much different feel(better) than the heavier 357 mag barrels.

In that condition, sounds more like a $195 combo.  I do love those slim barrels though.

I love the 158 got several of them,  but never heard of one with matte nickel.  That could be a rare one.  I'd say it is worth what ever your willing to pay.  You won't likely find another one.  But if you want the new style,  handi rifles in my area go for around $269 and the shot guns around $110.
