I'm lovin' the 45 carbine.

Took the 45 out this morning to try my handloads. My loads consist of Winchester brass, large pistol primers, 26gr. of H110 and the 250gr. XTP's. Set up at 50 yds. using sand bags and open sights. The barrel was clean so I shot 3 cast bullets to foul the barrel then went to my handloads. Bingo... cloverleafs. ;D  3 shots touching at 50 yds. with the open sights. I'm happy as can be.
This rifle is shaping up to be my go to Handi. I've got a set of old style synthetics on it and the open sights. It's light, handy and powerful. I can't wait for deer season. ;)

Glad your 45 is treating you good.  IIRC there is a Handi Law that requires you to rent the 454 Reamer and improve you gun. ;D   If your Handi 44 Mag gets depressed and wants to run away from home, I know place where it can seek shelter. ;)

I love mine also.  Like BB said rent the reamer from Quick and in 15 minutes you got yourself a 454.  Easy and packs lots of fun.

Glad you're liking it.  I love mine as well and it's a good bit more portable than my BC .45-70.  ;)  Really fun and accurate and cheap plinker is a 200 gr. Dardas RNFP, (1000) cost like 75 bucks, and 6.5 gr. Unique.  Can typically get a sub 1-1/4" group at 50 with them and they kick like a .22 mag.  ;)

Ahh... BB, you forget... Spankster strayed a bit.. He has a CVA 44Magie, not a H&R. This H&R 45 Colt has brought him back to his right mind... LOL

Nope, I like my Handi .45 Colt the way it is.  I've got .45-70, .445SM and a .500.  Don't need any more horsepower.  The .454 can sit on the back burner.........well......perhaps some day...........in a weak moment......

Mine's on an SB1 frame so it won't be getting reamed either. Even if it was on an SB2 the 45 Colt would stay as is, plenty of power for whitetails within it's range limits.

I've got the barrel on an SB2 frame but I don't think I'll ream it. I priced some 454 brass and it was pretty expensive. I don't need any more power than I can get out of it now. This thing is just a pleasure to carry and shoot... it only weighs 5.6 pounds with a round in the chamber and I like the open sights on it. Now that I've been studying up on what the round is capable of I feel like a fool for putting it down as compared to the 44 mag. Speaking of which... I picked up my new 44 mag Handi today but I got a feeling it's gonna sit on the rack alot more than this 45 does. ;)

Don't own a 45 Colt and never shot one.  I got a 5 gallon pail of range brass a couple of weeks ago and sorted it.  There was one 45 Colt in the can.  That lone brass is now sitting on my reloading bench and I keep starin' at it.  So much for saving money. :P

If'n you live where there's snakes, might wanna try making some of these too.  8)  I'm planning to keep every-other chamber in my blackhawk with these, for those pesky squirrels/partridge that I only see when deer hunting.  lol  ;)  Going to do a pattern test tomrrow, but I figure 10 ft or so usable range w/out a choke.  ;)

They are fun but not too useful really... I have made them with gas checks and larger shot with better success. But larger shot means less dense patterns... Hope yous luck is better then mine!

Yah, I've heard that it's about a 6-10 ft. affair.  I'll probably end up just using my .451 RB loads to plink with.  Those are fun also with minimal Charge, but in the revolver for some reason the RB's are only about a 10 yard use also.  So these are something to play with hehe.  ;)

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

You can probably go to any range in the country and you won't find any 45LC brass.
 
Reason why is most folks who own one reload it because that is where the 45 Colt really shines.    It's so versatile, and it's just a fun cartridge to load and shoot.

I use Trail Boss in every caliber that I reload and it works great in them all. My reloading bench will not be without it. I loaded some 45 LC with .454" round balls over TB last night for my son to plink with. They are very accurate out to 25 yards.

Well, classic carbine really didn't like the shot shells.  lol  As predicted, it threw shot even at 6' into too large a pattern to be useful.  I did however really like the way the Blackhawk patterned for really close small game kills.  Think I'll be killin' squirrels if they get within 10' of me with it.  ;)  First one is 6' and 2nd is 10'.  Oh, and the bigger holes on the targets were from my .30 carbine.  I recycled the targets for patterning.  Also noticed the wad hits.  ;)

I was at Wally World  the other day and picked up a pack of the Barnes saboted 250 grain black powder bullets witht the polymer tips and loaded them with 10 grains Unique. I tried one out on a milk jug so that leaves me 14 more for deer season. This is the first load I have made other than some 260 grain cast bullets for plinking. The classic carbine is the only 45 colt I own and it will NOT be reamed to 454.
