15-3 for zoner
« on: September 24, 2011, 04:37:22 AM »
Last week i went to a co-workers house to look at(and buy) an 1894 Marlin 44 mag he had for sale. I had given him the money for the rifle when he mentioned he had a smith revolver to "get rid of" too. He needed money to pay bills.Out pops a 15-3 without a mark or blemish anywhere. Looks unfired. I said how much and he said $250.Gulp!.I wanted both guns but could only afford one right now so he said i could buy whichever one i wanted today and he'd hold the other gun for me for a month. The smith came home with me. I've wanted a model 15 for many years but always walked away.....they're pricy and rightly so. Here's a pic of my baby

What a deal!  You just don't find them in that condition for anywhere near that price!

Great revolver, you're gonna love it.

As a USAF Air Policeman I was armed with S&W M15 for 20 yrs. They are great-never malfuctioned. I cheated for yrs on ammo-I reloaded since 1970 and always carried JHP on duty when in CONUS. Later in my career as an Investigator we were allowed CCW-mine was a 1911! not a Beretta M92-not yet approved for my time.  I carried and reloaded for many 38/357+ others weapons-M36/15/27/29/1917/66. They good to go!

i shot the 15-3 yesterday for the first time. 158 gr cast bullet over 4 grs 231,i shot 15 rds at the head of a silouette target. Slow fire, single action at 15 yds  all 15 hit the head with 10 rds in a group about 4"......it's telling me it's a accurate shooter and that i need to practice some ;)

well...it happened again. My S+W luck has been real good lately. Picked up a 8 3/8" 17-5 the other day. Wasn't looking for one but it was in 95+% condition and came to me with a Leupold M8 4X mounted. Took the revolver w/scope home with me for the grand total of $350 cash. After the scope sells i will have even less in it( no use for a scoped handgun). That's two S+W target revolvers in excellent condition for 600 bucks. Knock wood ;) ......Mike

M15 Smiths are great pistols. I've had one in the safe for about 5 years now. Like an idiot I got rid of my last M17. Congrats on your newest acquisitions!

Here's one of my (former) pre-15 from 1951.  I actually found a cleaner one and traded this one off.  Good guns and most of them, scary accurate.

The Speer #8 Manual has some great Defense Loads for 38 in it. SR4756 over Sierra JHC bullets have taken lots of game for me in 38/357.

The model 15 is one of my favorite Smiths.  Mine is a former Fort Worth PD issue revolver.

I think that you got a great deal on yours.
