On another paseo across his broad acres he was confronted by a gent whom the Horrells had imported from Abilene. He was ___?___, a Quantrell raider, buffalo runner, and gunfighter. They hired him to kill Higgins, and ___?___ with admirable forthrightness immediately rode out to do the job. He came onto Pink at a spring where the two factions watered their stock. Higgins, fortunately for him, saw the stranger riding into the willows about the waterhole and sagaciously pulled his Model 73 from the scabbard beneath his knee. When ___?___ rode into the little clearing beside the spring, he knew this was his man. He went for his belt weapon but Pink had him cold. He shot within an inch of the ornate beltbuckle which held up the six-shooter. The shot cut the gunfighterÂ’s spine in two.
