Ballistic twin to the 7-08.

I bought a new Ruger 77 nearly 30 years ago in 7X57 and it was a gem. I didn't reload then and couldn't realize the ballistic potential, but it killed every buck stone dead on the spot with mildly loaded 140 gr Corlokts for several years. I sold it to a neighbor who, to this day, will NOT sell it back to me! :(

I renewed our relationship with a new Ruger 1-A Sporter 7X57 last September. I'm loading a 95% load of IMR 4831 behind 140 gr Nosler Partitions close to 2800 FPS without excessive recoil.....in fact....I believe (after shooting them side by side) less felt recoil than a comparably stocked 7MM-08.

You will love the way they shoot......sweet..... 8)

If you look at Chuck Hawks site on his recoil charts you will see that in the same weight rifle with the same size bullet you will see that the 7m-08 has less recoil than the 7x57.  But I dont think enough to make any difference.

I wished I had bought a 7X57 before I loaded my self down with with many other calibers.  However, if your going to have only one shot it had better be a good one.  Get a Win. 270 and you'll never be sorry.

The 7x57 is a really great cartridge.  In this country it's loaded to pitifully lightly levels but with a modern rifle it can reach levels which even exceed the 7-08..  and approach the 280..

:D It's a very pleasant rifle to shoot and it has a lot of potential if you like to handload.

Hey,

Have a Ruger 1A in 7x57, have taken all my deer with a  single shot in the last 10 years.   Started into ML's this year but will hang onto my Ruger.   Its a lot more pleasant to shot than the 30.06 I traded-in to get it. :D
