My recommendation is to open the cylinder throats to about .001 larger than groove diameter at it's largest point, which will probably be at the muzzle. The gun will become a tack driver, and you can do all the work yourself for very little cash outlay. All you'll need is a pack of our push through slugs and a lap kit, which will do many guns.
If you have your heart set on a shorter barrel, perhaps you could get the existing one shortened and a new sight attached for a lot less money than for rebarreling. If you do rebarrel, you'll have to do a good job of selecting a smith or the new barrel will end up with a choke at the attachment threads, just like factory barrels do.
I like 4 to 5 inch barrels best on revolvers also.
