WARNING!!!!!!

after no longer shooting black powder, I stored a finished powder horn and a matched pair of dark gray horns in my shed.  I pulled one off the shelf and got a face full of sawdust.  they were riddled with holes and totally ruined.
according to my research it was the larva of the carpet beatle.

keep this in mind if you store your horns long term where bugs can get to them.

;D ;D I needed some laughs, the finished horn was a cheapie from cabelas but the gray ones were beautiful. I almost cried.

Mice will eat 'em too.  I had a knife and sword I bought in the PI when I was in the Navy with handles of water buffalo horn.  Had.

Last week I pulled a seldom used holster from a shelf in my shop. It was covered with dust but the surprise was the stuff which poured out and onto the floor--Birdseed ! Apparently some mouse had been stealing my birdseed and used that holster for a storage bin. ;D  There was no damage at all to the holster. Got to admire the little bugger's industry, it was a fairly high shelf and it must have taken lots of trips to carry all that seed.

My wife is always getting on me to store some of my gear in the shed. I always answer "NO WAY!"  The mice would eat my stuff up in short order. I cant hardly leave a lawn mower in there without them chewing through the starter rope.
