Howl old is the Howler?
« on: January 08, 2004, 06:01:55 AM »
We all know that an Indian, with leaf in mouth, was able to squall in a furbearer. But how old is the Howler?

Purchased my first from Bill Austin out of Rawling WY in 1987. Was said to be revolutionary and never before avalible.

I found this to be largely true in my part of the country. Seemed like I had a good secret for a couple years then read about a guy who put an open reed on a bugle in a Field & Stream article.

What I really like about Bill's calls is the excellent instruction cassette that comes with them.
His calls are still avalible at Allpredatorcalls.com

I have a couple of Rich Cronk calls. I have had no luck last year with them in the winter, as not that much snow in Jan & Feb some of our more productive months. and when we did get a good snow it would turn to single didgets temps. I was set for a electronic call until a hunter in the eastern part of the state told me invest in a range finder. He was right.
I still practice the calls, as it drives the neighbors dogs nuts.
