Shotgun barrels for T-C G2?
« on: September 28, 2011, 02:45:12 PM »
Does anybody still make .410 or 28 ga barrels for the Contender Carbine?  I have a factory 21" .410 for my G2 (off an earlier Contender) and would like to get a 28 ga.  My son wants a .410 for his G2.

The T-C Custom Shop used to make both and the regular factory .410 was available in first 21" and then 23" but I don't see them now.  Is the Custom Shop ever going to come back?  Does anybody else make custom shotgun barrels for the Contender?  (I don't see them on the MGM website).

T/C shows a 24" .410 smoothbore vent rib on their website part#1233:

I wouldn't mind getting one of these at some point either. I didn't realize the custom shop made 28 gauge barrels at one time. I'd prefer that over the 410 but either would be cool small game barrels in my book.

Here's the link to their website, it says the 410 comes with a screw in full choke:

I'll have my kid take a look at that site.  I've found my .410 barrel on the G2 pretty effective even on quail, although I don't put it on when I'm actually after quail.  But when I'm hunting cottontails with it, I've flushed quail a number of times and actually hit some!  Not sure what the choke tube on it is: it looks to me like there is almost no choke in it!  No markings on it at all (I got this barrel used).

I'd like to try a 28 guage barrel on the G2; think it would be even better than the .410.  I use a Ruger Red Label 28 O/U for upland birds and shoot it better than any other shotgun I've ever had, including my Beretta 20 ga O/U and Ruger 12 ga Gold Label SxS.

The TC Custom Shop 28 gauge barrels are great.  I thought they were supposed to be open by now but who knows.  Dave Van Horn has made some 28 gauge barrels as well.  And as always, call Ed Kirkpatrick to see what he has in stock.

Did the 28 gauge custom shop barrels come with a vent rib like the 410's do?

Mine looks exactly like the newer 24" factory 410 barrel but in 28 gauge.

Why can't they make a 20 gauge?

+1 on the 20 gauge, that would be great on the G2.

Put a 20 gauge shell up to the breech end of a contender barrel and you will see why it does not work.

I'm happy they made a 28 at one time, I'll have to keep my eye out for one.

My son bought a new 24" .410 barrel for his G2 and we did some informal skeet with it.  He hit 18/25 with the last 9 straight hits once he got in the groove!  I believe the boy could hit a quail!

("Boy" is 28 and a new Staff Sgt. in the USMC--kid can REALLY shoot anything from a Ruger Bearcat to a SAW!  Our early encouragement plus USMC pro training adds up to a SERIOUS marksman.  He just deployed again and I've got a stainless Kimber .45 waiting for him when he returns from  A-stan.  He's always wanted a 1911.).

I'm still waiting for the custom Shop to get its act together; when they say they are back in biz, I'm ordering a 28 guage barrel for my G2 (I already handload .28s for a Ruger Red Label).
