Looking for load data for 405

Anyone point me in the right direction for some load data for the 405 Winchester? Just picked one up in a Ruger #1 and looking for a good recipe for some cast bullets.

Lyman 49 has data, also you can obtain some pretty basic stuff from accurate.

Ahhhh yes!

I'm using the .405 Win in my R#1 at 100 and 200yds with 300 and 400 gr plain based cast bullets.

Two uses - the 'Ram Bash" at 200 yds - 40 shots at an iron ram 21" high and 40+" wide and then 100 and 200 yds standing and bench in scheutzen competition.

Still working up loads but starting with Unique (10-12 grs) held to the primer with a small bit of dacron.

I partially full-length size and then expand to two diameters - wider diameter for 1/10" and narrower for about 1/2".  Narrower is slip fit for bullets.  This allows hand seating.  If I want to have more tension, seating deeper does it.

FUN gun/caliber!

Ken Waters did quite a bit of work with the 405  in his Pet Loads book.

The SAAMI drawing for the 405 looks like it would not be very conducive to cast bullet use. No real throat to speak of, just a 45 deg. bevel from the case mouth to the bore. How are those Rugers throated? Have you guys gotten good performance from them with cast?

Oh, remember it looks just like a 40-70 straight. Loads for that will work too.

You're right about the SAAMI throat.  Could be improved - like the #1s in .458WinMag., but it doesn't leave clumps of lead as some others do.

Most folks in load development load for power or velocity.  My interest is in accuracy - so the lower velocity loadings do well - and don't beat you up as much after 40 or 100 rounds

My winchester shoots cast bullets just fine, even has shown possible likeness for paper patched rounds. The one thing it has not digested real well yet is blackpowder....
