.308 Norma Mag
« on: October 03, 2011, 07:11:10 AM »
I'm looking at a used rifle in .308 Norma Mag and the ammo and brass for reloading is way to expensive.  Can .300 Win mag cases be resized to use in the .308 Norma Mag?

Tony,
The .308 Norma mag is a basically a twin to the 30/338 Mag, simply run .338 Winchester mag brass through a full length resizing .308 Norma Mag Dye and trim the necks if necessary.   This is much simpler than trying to use .300 Winchester mag brass.
This is actually a better round for the reloader than the 300 Winchester mag.

Tony,
My .308 Norma Mag is on a 110 Savage Action with a 24 inch Shaw barrel in a laminated walnut/maple stock it groups in the 1/2 inch range with multiple loads.
Top loads:
Sierra 165 at 3125 FPS .532 inch qroup at 100 yds.
Noslet 150 BT at 3320  .572 inch qroup at 100 yds
This is a great round for the handloader.

308 Norma Magnum cases can be made by necking up a 7mm Remington Magnum case or necking down 338 Winchester Magnum cases.
