Mortar ID
« on: October 03, 2011, 05:29:24 PM »
Can anyone tell me about this mortar, It showed up at our cannon shoot Sat. The fellows bought a box of junk at a auction and this barrel was in the bottom. Looked like it was a soda size bore and were shooting lead balls. The mussel had been machinced and looked like pour steel. Also a org. brass signal mortar showed up, I forgot to take pic., Thanks

Might be a South Bend tube.

It looks to be a "South Bend Replicas" cast iron coehorn; because of the exaggerated length of the rimbase rectangles.
Barrel length: 13"
Bore: 2¾"
Chamber: 7/8"

smokemjoe; what do you mean by 'original signal mortar'?

I'd like to find that in the bottom of my junk box, nice old mortar.

They paid like $140.00 for the box but what was on the top was all gun related items thatwas worth more then that alone.
