I live around thousans of Laotian flks, I think they will contest that. I married one 20 years ago, I am very familiar with their war stories. Things changed, they gained freedom and we lost it.

I fully realize that our governments at all levels constantly tries to push here and there on some of our liberties, but it is usually because some do-gooders have put pressure on, or some group of do-gooders have gotten elected. Additionally, sometimes events spawn laws and regulations that turn out to be repressive. On the other hand, I can't legally hold a phone to my ear while driving, I have to wear a helmet when I'm riding my motorcycle and I have to wear a seatbelt when I drive. I would be quite surprized to find out that these things are absent in New Zealand.

Oh, and yes I wake up every morning wondering what outrageous new scheme the regime is hatching to pare away at our liberties.

50 plus years ago that would be easy to answer. The only place I can think of that may have more freedom now would be Switzerland IMO.

There are good American citizens in jail right now because they didn't pay their taxes. That's not a free country in my book.

Freedom as is defined in this Index, we are not the most free nation anymore thanks to over regulation, free dole entitlements and over taxing from Washington and the State Houses. While we do have "rights" here that may not be afforded in these other countries, the point is we end up scoring lower in other areas driving down the score. Basically, the USA is on the downfall and falling thanks to the low lifes that only take from our system and greed that is sucking off the system.

It's a loaded question. Can't be answered. If C.Baldwin thinks we're not a free nation, it would depend on what freedoms he's refering to. Would he pack up and go live in Iran, and preach. He might find out he's a lot better off here. If he's refering to 2nd. Amd. freedom, lets see him pack up his AR-15 and head over to England and tell the local bobbies it's for home protection. On the otherhand, if we're talking about freedom to use drugs, I would guess Denmark might be his choice. Or prostitution. Now, if we're looking at economic freedoms, that opens up a whole new can of worms. Country's like India and Pakistan, give loans to there citizens to come to America and buy business's. (ever wonder why alot of motels are owned by Paki's and Indians) And, they pay very little, if any, income tax's, because they're here on a green card. In the mean time, U.S. citizens that go abroad and work for a U.S. company, still pay income tax's. Now, if we're talking about personal freedoms, where does your personal freedom end, and the other guys begins. Grey area. Want to fly on an airline, it's they're plane, so I believe it's they're rules. Want to carry a gun on board, and they don't let you, drive your car. It's your car. Want to carry a gun into my house, as long as I know you, and trust you, carry 10 guns. Just don't light up a cigarette. I might ask to have a pull off of your cigar maybe.

I think the US of A is probably one of the last places that is pretty free. I wouldn't want to live in any other country, but if we keep electing socialists, we won't be keeping it.
