Yeah, my wife is fighting it too. 

But and occasional splurge can be budgeted for in your daily carbs, unless you are really out of control. 

And little tricks, like for the mug cake, swap Splenda for the sugar, and divide it into small ramekins or demi-tasse (obviously change the cooking time).

Pancakes, make 'em silver dollar size and forgo the glaze on them.

I don't do "small or little"when it comes to sweets, so I have to be radical for me it is   VE R B O T E N !!

Ah!  We are going through that with a few things ourselves.  We had been without insurance for about 4 or 5 years, so she was off meds and such so it got a bit out of control, but we are reining it in now.

I've had the pumpkin-cinnamon pancakes, they are GREAT!!!  Throw in a half pound of bacon or couple of big pieces of country ham, a big mug of hot joe and that's eatting for or a king!!! ::) ::)

You got a point there.
 
At a recent confab with a health provider I had asked her: Why should a person of my age deny himself the pleasure of certain foods just to prolong the misery of getting decrepit for a few mostly useless extra years?
 
I just got a "look" for an answer.

A "look" or The Look?

Our doc was talking my my wife a few weeks ago, trying to reinforce that she, due to her high sugars, is more prone to infections.  We went though the same conversation when she was first diagnosed so she fell back on the line we came up with back then. She looked at the doc and said "Yeah, I'm a walking petrie dish."  Caused the doc to blink and then say 'Exactly!'  They make things so complicated.
