NEF 12 Gauge 24" bbl. 3-1/2"chamber-unusual?
« on: October 08, 2011, 09:55:03 AM »
Last year I saw and purchased at my local gun shop an NEF 12 Gauge with 24" barrel, full choke and chambered for up to 3-1/2" shells. The shotgun had a factory camo wooden stock set.I liked the shorter length, very light weight  and the ability,if I wished,to shoot 3-1/2" shells. So far ir has served me well.
Is this configuration unusual?I only see one like it for sale on Gunbroker.

I have shot such a beast as you  have with a 3.5 inch round ......once,  decided I don't need a turkey that bad !!!!!! for the record I shot a 10 gauge slug gun  27 times in less than an hour  I can handle recoil

Yup,it DO kick with slugs.I went to the range yesterday to try it and the recoil is ,shall I say, noticeable.I NEVER want to shoot another three inch slug from that shotgun and a 3-1/2" one is a "maybe I might try it ONCE". type of proposition.
It is as light as I wanted it to be.The downsides???I'll learn to live with it.Luckily I am not recoil sensitive to any great degree.
As usual your inputs ate greatly appreciated.Thank you all.

Yah, I hadn't tried slugs yet.  Picked up an Improved Cylinder choke to use with the cheapo Remington sluggers to start with.  Think I'm gonna mold up some Lee 1oz and mount em in a brass magtech shell to test.  ;)

yup, I had one once and got rid of it like an idiot. Best patterns outta any turkey gun I've owned til I got it in the 10 ga.. It had a heck of a thump, which I like. Most of the guys I hunt with won't shoot hallf my guns because they think they kick to much.

I have a 24" barrel that accepts choke tubes. I shot 2 3 1/2" turkey loads out of it. That was enough for me. It paterns 3" just fine at 40 yards.

PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

I made the mistake of shooting my Pardner 12 ga with a 2oz turkey load several years ago. It honest to god knocked the wind out of me!  I thought it had broken my coller bone and jaw!  I will NEVER shoot anything over 1 1/4 ounce loads through it again without putting a lead weight in the stock!
If it has a barrel and shoots bullets I am interested in it and if I don't have one I want one.  Never met a gun I didn't like.

It's a good idea to let borrowers shoot guns'n'loads like that then they'll look elsewhere. ;D
