Encore opening help
« on: January 09, 2004, 10:51:14 AM »
I know this has been discussed before. My Encore with a specific barrel is just plain hard to open...empty...and worse after being fired. I am about 20% off max loads so I don't think pressure is a problem. Have tried two frames and it seems to be the barrel. What exactly causes this? Do I need "fitting" somewhere?
Thanks in adance.

locking lugs

Yeah, sounds like your locking lugs are a tad too big or too small.  Call TC and see if they can send out some different sizes.  The barrel should sound exactly the same closing empty, without force as the other barrels.  Even better is to get Jim Henry to work on it.  He is CA and is the best TC smith out there.  Dan

Hey IronMonkey.............. How would a person go about getting in touch with Jim Henry?

You wont belive this, butt there are 2 trigger guards for the Encore. If yours is Blued,it is the old one. The new and improved model is matt. If yours is Blued, send it back to TC for the easy open one. Seems to me the Contender had a prob like this!

Check the barrel to frame gap , I have found that this will vary from barrel to barrel and frame to frame at least with the contenders and I would think it would be the same with the encore . If you have real tight frame and barrel combo they become hard to close.
I have a couple of barrels that just plain wont work with certain frames.

QD45, it closes OK, its opening thats a problem. The gap is pretty tight on this rig, if I remember correctly its .002". Any more suggestions would be welcome.
