Had Enough I'm Going To My Happy Place
« on: October 08, 2011, 04:37:19 PM »
Six days a week since April, no holidays, no vacation. I've had my fill.

Wed. I'm going west for Wapiti. Color me gone for 2, count 'em TWO weeks. this year I'll be sharing camp with five of the best guys you could meet, no whiners or shirkers. I think the altitude weeds that group pretty thin. Last season we went 5 for five bulls. I don't really expect to repeat that sorta thing but always the potential for the good Lord to smile on us twice.

I've worked up hand loads for an M-70 in  .325 WSM that I won. 8)  Settled on 69g of rl19 and an 200gr Accubond. I'll will be taking the 1895 Marlin along as well. Figure to have the long and the short of it covered. ;D

I'm so danged stoked I can't help but holler a little. :)  Heck I'm in such a good mood I'll be buying the drinks till they close this place tonight!

Sounds like you earned it! Have a fun time.  Just remember quartering and carrying is part of the fun. It just starts after a bunch of the other fun is over. :)  thejanitor

Thanks for the encouragement folks.

I've been banking the vacation time up this year to be able to get plenty of woods time this fall.

This will be my third trip with this group. Last year was my first Elk on the ground, what a mountain of meat to work on. I kept asking myself what have you gotten yourself into now. :o  I still have about 25#s in the freezer, and can't remember the last beef I purchased. With only three of us left in the house the venison sure lasts longer. The girls are pretty well ruined for deer meat now, as the elk meat is very tasty.

Hunting is so different than the farm bucks I grew up chaseing. Definately more labor involved, wish I would have started when I was younger. Age has taught me to excercise patience and go at a reasonable pace. We are in the middle of them so I'm as likely to find one a hundred yards from camp as three miles ( matter of fact that is exactly what happened ).

The laundry is done and my bags are pretty well packed. Was kind of hoping I wouldn't have time to get the last mowing done.

Not sure deserves gets much respect in the woods.

I drive a truck ... team on a delivery route. The hours are either lousy or not so much depending on your half full or half empty scale. I'm away from home about 90 hrs a week sleeping at home two nights. I would only work about 50 hrs of that time, and many times only 45. But I figure if I'm at work 7hrs on friday that ain't exactly a day off is it? So that leaves Saturday as the only full day off a week. Every other day of the week is burned to some fashion like friday.

I am by no means complaining, I bid this amount of work, and am thankful to be employed. Been at this for fifteen years now, the company treats me pretty well. But it is time to play. ;D
