Info re Webley MKIV (4) Boer war revolver
« on: October 09, 2011, 04:15:14 PM »

Dear Guys,

Were the Webley MKIVs (4) designed to shoot black powder .455s, or smokeless powder .455s.  In particular, circa 1904 revolers.

I understand that the MK 5s and 6s had thicker cylinder walls.

  Thanks, Mannyrock

England starting using cordite mid 1890s for their .455 Webley cartridges before the Mk IV revolver was adopted.  Nitrocellulose was used in the Mk VI .455 cartridge introduced late 1930s long after the Mk VI revolver was fielded.

The Mk IV revolver utilized improved steel over earlier models and some case hardening which must have been to initially accommodate the adoption of cordite cartridges.

A Mk IV is something I wouldn't hot rod, but I do shoot mild smokeless lead loads in mine.
