Home » News Cain: Move ‘Occupy Wall Street’ to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue       By Elizabeth Harrington October 7, 2011 Subscribe to Elizabeth Harrington's posts
Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain addresses the media on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011 at Barnes & Noble in in The Woodlands, Texas. (AP Photo/The Courier, Karl Anderson)(CNSNews.com)
- Republican presidential nominee candidate Herman Cain called for the Occupy Wall Street protestors to relocate to the White House, in remarks he made Friday at the Family Research Council’s annual Values Voter Summit, in Washington, D.C.
“When a reporter asked me the other day, well, what do you think about those demonstrations up on Wall Street, I said, first of all, Wall Street didn’t write these failed economic policies -- the White House did,” said Cain.
He then added, “Why don’t you move the demonstrations to the White House?”
The Values Voter Summit is a three-day conference that brings together conservatives aligned on traditional ideas, beliefs and values.  The summit also included appearances by presidential nominee candidates Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann and Newt Gingrich.
“Wall Street didn’t write those failed policies, Wall Street didn’t spend a trillion dollars,” said Cain.   “Wall Street isn’t asking to spend another $450 billion.  It didn’t work with a trillion. It’s not gonna’ work with $450 billion. You can demonstrate all you want on Wall Street. The problem is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue!”
Cain also quoted the Declaration of Independence, stating that “it is the right of the people to alter and to abolish” the government.  “We’ve got some altering and abolishing to do!” he said.
“I want to thank you all for being here, because that means you get it,” Cain remarked.  “And you’re not going to let the liberals take this country down.”
“I may not have ever held a high political office, but I know what leaders do,” said Cain, who made an appeal to those in attendance with an endorsement of traditional values, pro-life beliefs and an understanding that marriage is defined as between one man and one woman.  He also said as president he would have asked the Department of Justice to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which the Obama administration is not doing, and is, in fact, actively opposing.

He has the city right, but the location wrong.  The Occupiers (in Elizabethan times, "to occupy" was slang for "to f**k", just an interesting aside there) should be "occupying" the Hallowed Halls of Congress. THAT is were all the problems are.

I think it is both.
You have a President that has his exucitve branch doing what it can to kill the economy with the EPA, Energy Department, and the IRS.
Not to mention the the over spending of his budget, the looming taxes of the sham of Obama care that will kill off more jobs and ruin our health care.   The lies were it will cut the average house holds health insurance payments by 2500 a year, last year was down to 2,000 and this year is down to 1200, by the time it is enforced it will be 3500 More not less.
The people that can create jobs are villified and reading between the lines are being told they will be taxed out of existance.  If you were told this would you hire any one?
Congress is in a dead lock as the house is run by one branch and the senate the other.,  The President and the Senate want to play politics and try to make scape goats out of the house, the oil companies, the bankers, wall street, the Arab spring, the tidal wave in Japan, huricanes, and anythng else that they think they can blame their bad ( I wanted to say failed policies but it think the plan is for higher unemployment, a depression, and the nationalizing of industry is there ultimate goal making the radical un constitutional  Czars his politburro) policies and plans.  We spent 1.5 Trillion dollars in a stimulis package that was supose to keep unemployment under 7% is now at 16% by the government numbers when you count the under employed, part time, and the people that have fallen off the unemployment rolls.   Everything he has said has been the opposite of what has happened
Everythihng I learned to create jobs in Economics classes is the exact opposite of what this President keeps calling for.
To create jobs, you cut taxes, you cut regulations, and you cut government spending.  You create an energy policy that allows use to put people to work, (drilling, refining, and making new refineries) all will make fuel cheaper making prices lower, making goods cheaper, increasing demand for items, increasing production , increasing wages and creating new jobs.

No this is their Planned Grass roots thing.
They want a TEA party  but they need to paln something and organize something.
The real kick is that they are all protesting something different.
Some are die hard communists that want a Cuba  style government for us, to kids wanting a job and not being educated at college think wall street runs things and is keeping profits rather than investing them in the economy.  When investing in the econmy is exactly what wall street does.  Increating financing for companies to expand through issuing and selling stock.  The problem is the dirivitives.  if it takes them longer than a sentance to explain the product, you don't want to put your money there.  Clearly you understand a share of Wallmart.  You own 1 of a million shares in the company.  The dirivatives are based on the profits a share (you don't own) produce.  And any one with common sense should never have allowed them on the housing market loans that we all knew would fail after a few years.
I think some are even protesting the pot clubs of CA closing i nthe next 45 days.
But the whole thing is staged and is being called grass roots.

Demopublicans surely want Penn Ave and Washington demonstrations there; and operatives may be able to hyjack/dilute the movement to go down there to get the heat of the real TPTB.  Its immaterial to demo in Wash DC...those personages are all bought and paid for by WallST and corpo interests....The demonstrations are in the right place and the right time...at the real seat of US power.

if the corps and Wstreet have bought and paid for congress, then why do the corps have the HIGH taxes and burdensome regulations that drive them overseas ?  it seems to me that the greenie-weenies are the problem.

NW, per coke CEO, they go to a friendlier business environment because they have that pesky obligation to their stockholders.
obama keeps touting his jobs bill that gives tax credits "he calls them tax breaks" for certain types of hiring.  small business needs REAL tax relief, not a one-time credit. all smoke and mirrors.
the corps would be right here providing jobs if it wasn't for confiscatory taxes, burdensome regulations and the likely prospect of more to come.
the liberals in this country would love to nationalize corps, and have people living in communes growing root vegetables.
it's communism, and some don't see it coming.

A myth....a myth designed to further extract the wealth of average Americans and leave their grandkids in a mire of apolluted filthy cess and penniless. Corps don't really owe anything to stockholders....investors assume risk,,,they are not loaning money. The stockmarket is another wealth extraction racket.  Your vision of liberals is mass media creation for self styled conservatives.

People that want no regs, no taxes, no controls on corps are the true Bolshevik radicals insisting on a private socialism for corps only at public's socialized expense. True conservatives want fair and square Capitalism and free enterprise at entrepeneur's expense and not by extraction of all the public's wealth and health....that is true conservatism.

communism at its best.  you have no idea what a conservative is.
all you can do is spout greed and other nonsense.  we see this same greed accusation from ron paul supporters.  it's petty jealousy because you can't have you way.

When one of the CEO's of one of the largest simi conductor producers says to build a plant in the United States cost one million more because of permits , taxes , EPA regs and OSHA standards its way more than wages . He even noted wages were not a concern . We The People have made some bad choices and those choices are making worst ones.

I doubt it since EPA regs and OSHA standards are imposed each day. He could build in right to work states and have quality labor at reasonable cost. And shipping goes both ways in many cases. So the plant in the U.S. would be shipping raw materials in . I doubt he is lieing as it smart CEO's know they would get caught in the lie.

He's lying.  He would recoup one million in shipping and other costs in no time. He is escaping taxes and living labor costs.....he is a globalist...he could care less about the USA.

Bugeye.....just think about it....who the real conservatives are....they're not the ones that fly the coup and abandon this country for their own private 'socialism' somewhere else.

they have been driven out by your heros.  when a private corp goes public, they have obligations to the people who buy their stocks.  when your heros make it too difficult to keep their promise to investers, they have to take drastic action.  they don't owe a thing to anyone except the people who put their faith in them by buying stock.  you are jealous of people who make money and won't give you some of it.  long ago I took an uncles advice and put my money in utilities and I would get better dividends if people could afford to heat and aircondition their homes.
all the problems of this country lies at the feet of the liberals.

I disagree , EPA regs with reguard to global warming were baised on bogus imformation . I wonder how many good companies were forced out because of it ? With all due respect your idea that all regs are good is not well founded as history has proven. A fact that our consitution addresses in the form of appeal and repeal .

Green house gas and there causes and effects. When you consider that man causes less that 1/10 of 1 % of the problem then find their reserch was bogus to start with it leads one to lose faith in their creditablity does it not. When you consider the Americans who have lost jobs because of this it is hard to not blame them for the rush offshore.

modicum of safety and environment regs ? there's people in this country that have property they must pay taxes on, that can't even build a house on because of some rare bug. my brother in Oregon had a lot of friends lose everything because of a spotted owl. there's a long list of such epa abuses.
starting up a business today is one of the most complicated ventures you can imagine. for most, it's not worth the trouble.  and the head liar in the whitehouse is spouting his jobs bill as the cure-all when in reality it's a one-time credit and after the elections it will be back to the same tax and spend.

I really do not want the demostrations to go to DC but if you are mad at no job you have to look at the policies of the governemnt.
The problem is the crowd wanting to get rid of companies.  They are not real smart, they carry signs with the Hammer and Cycle of the  Soviet Union with Freedom on them.  I can not think of a more corrupt system than the Soviet union.  That was anything but free.
The Democracy now stuff is anything but free and fair.  If we have 30 people and 20 are over 25 and we vote if the people under 25 should be slaves to the poeple over 25 majority rule, doe not make it right.
Listening to the people try to make a cogent artgument and they contradict them selves  and resort to we want the criminal 1% to stop stealing from the 99%.  Being in the 99 % they should not speak for me, and I do nto see the 1% as stealing but trying to make the economy run and provide the goods and services that people want at fair prices.

Well, it’s just not that simple.

When you have to compete with imports from foreign companies that are based in these lower cost areas, what choice do you have? Not sure if you’re aware, but American based companies are competing for business with foreign companies here on our soil and abroad. If that foreign company produces their product in China and is selling that product to your customers, you have no choice. You either find ways to reduce your operating costs so you can lower your product costs to your customers or you go out of business.

The “its simple” explanation is just a bit short of the entire story.

Brazil has a 40% duty rate on imports. Russia about 20%, India about 40%,China has about a 20%. The BRIC countries are screwing us yet we let hundreds of thousands of their citizens to come and work here on work Visas and then we let them overstay with no enforcement.

And when you support raising tax on US companies I'm curious if you take into account all the costs they have? After all, why are all these jobs going away? Companies bottoms lines are suffering, that’s why. That’s the problem to focus on, not all these political gimmicks of money redistribution.

OK in part.  I'm sure the OWSt agrees with you....what paradigm lets this happen?....I'd say its the 'socialist' (for them) on Wall St actually social globalist....i.e. the TPTB...that dictate these policies to the ceremonial governmnet in Wash DC.

You and IG should be marching with these OWSt people...not villifying.... ;) ;D

..TM7

What lets this happen is a poor foriegn policy process. No business, corporation or Wall Street Banker is interested in paying rediculous import tax on business transaction with these countries. So again, the problem is on Penn Ave, not Wall Street.
These protesters have no idea what they are protesting for. They seem to just be an angry mob looking for a hand out.

Wathcing and listening to the idiots in the Occupy wall street movement.
They are Anti Semites, one moron yelling that he JEWs need to be run out of the country, from the LA school district.  Had this moron yelled that Illegals need to be run out would have been fired.  Main difference being that the people on wall street are doing legal things and the illegals having broken multiple laws just being here and rightly asked to leave.  Most want someones credit card to pay off their student loans and other debts.  I find it funny that most of these people have not paid taxes, see the Bank bail outs as the tax money and they think their debts should have been eliminated.
Since they do not have a realistic list of demands, they are all fractured in what they want. why are we listening to them?  Why doesn't someone in a suit, say they are a leader from wall street, come out and say we are meeting your demands, thank you for bringing these demands to our attention.  At the same time put a few people in the crowd to yell " it is OVER the fat cats gave in, we made history", AND be done with these dolts that have no clue that they are the criminal 1% and not the main stream 99% they claim to be.

Herman Cain, Fox TV pundit Sean Hannity, and others from the extreme right wing ...

Tm - Since "poorrichards" blog has determined that Mr. Herman Cain is from the "extreme right wing", I guess you believe that now. ::) Another amazing newsworthy source. :P

Our corperate tax rate is up to 34% and the president is asking for it to go higher.  A corperation is a person under the tax law.  So the highest tax rates for people are the same for Corperations.
Much like your time you would add up all of your costs to come up with a price.  Same with a coperation and the taxes are considered a cost.
So if you need to make $500 a week to cover your bills and over head, you want to have $25 a week for future growth and you are being taxed 50% and your investors want 10% profit. when you add all of your total taxes you need to charge $656 a week for your service or product. to keep it simple.  Adding taxes to your company are only going to raise your prices as you still need 500 to cover your fixed costs (labor, land, raw materials)  The extra is for future growth in case machines break, you want to move or upgrade.  That too is a form of profit and will be taxed at 50% so you need to charge 37.50 for it.

Anyone who made $250,000.00 paid tax on everything they bought. If they had enough deductables to not pay taxes they either donated more than they earned or invested in capital or like many cooperations and small business had business losses in the last few years where they won't pay taxes for several years.
People who have little or no clue should educate themselves as to the reality of business and taxes.

these criminal occupiers are protesting the lack of jobs, but they are disrupting the lives of people who actually HAVE jobs.  if they were serious, they would be in washington.
all this is, is jealously of people who have become successful and they want some of their income.

Investors are not guarranteed anything and this is explained in disclosure...lenders are, however. Corp taxes may be 34% on the books...surely none pay this rate..NONE. Investments in future  development or capital purchases are deductibles and even depreciable....

Apparently, you don't know the answer to my question:  what is % US Corp Tax received  to GDP..?

The answer is the lowest in the world...what does that mean.?

.

Based on profits, what % are they paying in reality?
