Group Buy problems Starline brass
« on: October 10, 2011, 08:59:13 AM »
Morn'in Reloaders,

Just rec'd word this morning about a "group buy" of Starline, 45/70 brass that has gone from bad to worse.

The "Honcho" began to put the order togather early this year, sighing up people who were interested in saving a few bucks.

The sign up time ended in late April as I recall, and the order went to Starline shortly there after, late April or early May.

Since that time, Starline has lied to the Honcho at least twice, and commumication on this 10,500 piece order has been about zero except for what the Honcho attempted to find out for us.

Then, the straw which broke the camel's back came to light, apparently this past weekend, after the Honcho and his wife finished HAND counting the brass into shipping boxes.

Not only did Starline not communicate and also lie about delivery dates, BUT THEY SHORTED THE ORDER BY 185 PIECES!!!!!!!!!!

So, each to his own, but I for one will never again have any direct dealings with this company, rather only buying their brass if I can find it currently in stock at a stocking retail dealers.

The money saved was not worth the hassle and wait, and now it is still not over until Starline finishes filling the order.

Keep your eyes open!

My reply here is the same as the one on Rugerforum.net.
The distributor in this group-buy is the one responsible for dealing with the sub-2% shortage, so they have no room to complain.

Starline brass has universally been of excellent quality for me, and I'll keep buying them despite your coordinated effort at an internet-wide smear campaign.

Their brass is of excellent quality and in several dealings with them I've never had a problem. Perhaps this Honcho is the one who made the error. I'm sure Starline doesn't count such large quantities but rather weighs them.

Without hearing Starline's side I'll take it with a grain of salt due to all my excellent dealings with them.

;) Darrell, If you bought 300 pieces of brass one should get that amount..to me if a company is going to weight their product and say there will be so many pieces of brass, then one should have the scales set to assure at least the minum number of pieces of brass..I remember when Serria used to always have several extra bullets in each box to assure the count...

I have never had anything but good experiences when dealing with Starline. Even when backordered, cases show up long before the "expected" date. Never have I been shorted, but instead, always end up with a few "extras".

I gotta agree with MZ5.....

If they are weigh counting the brass contact the local weights and measures authority. Very few counting scales are legal for trade in the counting feature.

You can go here and read the whole thing. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?p=1424503#post1424503

And yes it is true that communication was not good unless the Honcho of the Group Buy would call. And yes they did not meet there own deadline a few times. And yes they were short by 185 pieces of brass of which I am sure they will make good on.

But Everyone in the group buy have or will get there brass as ordered. Except for the Honcho of the Group buy that was nice enough to accept the problem on his end only. So people will get there Brass of which is very good Brass at a very good price in the end. Just Late.

Will I purchase direct from Starline? You bet I will. Have I had to wait for brass before yes I have. BUT I have found it is very good Brass for an even better price.

I just wish they made more of the brass that they make available to the public such as for the 35 Whelen that they make exclusively for Double Tap. Darn It :(

This whole thing is silly. I used to post at "Cast Boolits". Finally, I just couldn't take things like this anymore. Smear away at Starline, I'd be amazed if anybody buys into it, and you're certainly not going to run them out of business, if that's your goal.

I've bought a bunch of brass from Starline with not a problem and will continue to buy their brass.

Yeah, I agree. I used to post there as well but found better things to waste my time on.
Starline is top shelf and much better than Winchester.

Sure doesn't look like someone is trying to run them out of business because that would be futile. Instead it's a heads up, you do know what a heads up is?  No wonder you're not at cast bullets anymore, shame shame.

No shame at all, I walked away, and I've never felt better about such a decision. I've had plenty of transactions with Starline without a hitch. I just don't buy into mob mentality. Say "hi to the "cool kids" for me.
