It is pretty wood but the "black bandage" is quite practical.
I guess what method you use to carry extra ammo is dependent on the kind of shooting you do. Where I live a groundhog or other varmint can show up at unexpected moments and I want a gun available with the required ammo. At times there will be multiple targets as well and it is faster to get a round off the stock rather than fish around in a pocket especially when in the sitting or prone position. So, with single shot long guns I like a bandage while magazine fed guns have no bandage but do have a full magazine and, if a Blaser, one in the chamber.
