My new 30-30 I orderd came in today. Fit and finish is great. Lock-up nice and tight, will see if it loosens up any after shooting. Now to find a scope. Still cant decide between the Weaver Classic V 2.5-7X32 or the Redfield Revolution 2-7x33. Both have great reviews and I can get the Redfield local....Decisions,decisions,decisions....

Congrats! I'm beginning to really like mine, hope you do as well. As for your scope decision, me, I'd go with the Redfield....Not the best but a good buy and it DOES have Leupolds backing.

"Shooting loose" isn't anything to worry about.
Personally I would go Redfield as opposed to the Chinese Weaver... But either will work for ya!

Both are great scopes.
It's not often that cwlongshot is wrong about something, but the current Weaver Scopes are made in Japan.
I would buy the Redfield Revolution 2-7x33, it's just a personal thing. I've always found that a two power scope lets me pick up the deer quicker than using a 2.5x or 3x scope. I changed over, years ago when I lost a nice buck, because I could find the deer on the scope quickly enough.
I also believe that buying locally is always better. If it's a reputable store, and there is a problem, you can usually go back to the store, to make it right.
Both scopes will serve you well. Just make sure you read through the Handi basics, before you start, instead of muddling through like I originally did. It will save you a lot of ammo.

I ordered the Redfield Rvolution 2-7x33 yesterday. After several hours and 10 calls to my local Gander Mountain with no answer in the firearms department and getting transfered to customer sevice, who dont know how to check their own system to see if an item is in stock or really dont want to, I finally got P/O'd and spent my money at our sponcer SWFA. I have been in our local Gander Mt. during the day and they are not that busy and the people that do work there dont seem to have a clue what they are doing and if you do want help with something you have to go find someone to help you !!! Enough venting, hopefully be doing some shooting in a few days and see what the Handi will do. Guess where I will not be buying any ammo from?

just not bad enough to change the stock and add a base
then have a useless iron sights on it

why won't some distributor just make a scope redy 30-30 available?

It seems most of the chain stores just hire sales people. With one notable exception, most in sporting goods don't have a clue. I get tired of knowing more about an item than the kid behind the counter trying to sell it. The one notable exception is the Sporting Goods manager at a Wal-Mart here in Michigan. He knows his stuff. Even he, evidently has no control over inventory. The guy knows better, but all the shotgun shells on the shelf are 8s and 4s, and the centerfire inventory is minuscule. The inventory must be mandated from above.

My .30-30 is a newer extractor and came with open sights. Out of the box and 20 minutes later the sights were gone, holes filled, scoped and bore sighted. It is an excellent shooter with factory ammo. I'll be reloading for it and my Marlin 336 this week.

I seem to have better luck at the local Walmarts or my local gun store also. Can the screw-in plugs that is removed where the scope base mounts be used to fill in the holes at the front and rear sight? Ive been thinking of removing my iron sights also. What factory ammo did you get the best results from?

Mine came with screw mounted sights.

I couldn't agree with you more Gander Mtn, is a real pain in the tail, to get any help or service. I've also found that most of the time, Dick's has better prices on ammo. My local Dick's also has a large selection of scopes in stock. When they don't have what I need, I usually try Midway, they have the Redfield Revolution 2x7 in stock for $149.99, and it's available.

We have a Dick's locally also, and they are just as bad about answering the phone...lol...I try to keep the money local, but you gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes when they dont have it. SWFA had the Revolution for $149.95 with free Redfield Scopesmith scope cover.

There are some really good deals out there on Leupold VX-1 2-7 scopes. I think Cabelas had them as low as $149.99 for the shotgun version and $159.99 for the regular 2x7x33. I'm not sure what the difference is but aren't they a notch or two above the Revolutions?

Randy: Just went thru the same exercise for my handi 3006. Was picking between the Redfield 2x7 and the Nikon ProStaff 2x7. Both were about the same price. So I thought, how often do I get to buy something made in the US? And as someone else stated, it is backed up by Leupold. Got the Redfield and got to test the warranty. The elevation adjustment had a problem. They fixed it real quick and it works fine now. I would probably buy another one. Anything can break. One of my hunting buddies recently had to send back a Zeiss Conquest so it can happen in the best of famiies!

I bought a 2-7x Redfield a couple months ago and it's the only scope I have than when you look through it on a cloudy day, it's brighter than just looking around. I don't know how they do it but it's amazing...

. I prefer to have sights on any rifle, whether I plan on ever using them or not. I also only buy used guns, and without fail when I find a gun I like that is in my price range somebody has stripped the sights off leaving me to search for sight that will fit the factory holes. I've got 2 handi-rifles now that are missing their sights, and I've scrounged sights in the past for Mossburgs, Marlins, and a Savage. Personally I would rather look at unused sights than filler plugs.

I don't think that the iron sights interfere with scopes, do they? And if the scope goes out of whack miles from anywhere, the irons beat none at all. I wish they would go back to putting open sights on everything so I don't have to get the barrels drilled & tapped!

A mount tall enough to clear the hammer will sit plenty high enough to clear the sights. I left mine on, wish my .bolt guns all had irons too!

WH - On my 30-30 barrel, the scope rail was too long to be mounted with the iron sights still on the barrel. I guess that's why, the member I purchased the barrel from took the rear iron sight off. I agree with you, I would have purchased a shorter scope rail, and kept the sights. BTW, I'm still trying to figure out which rear sight to replace it with. My problem, is that the rear sight was mounted using a dovetail.

Remember guys, most of those scope bases are aluminum making them easy to shorten and regrove if necessary. I'll try my prefered scope and if I don't need the extra base length, I cut it off and file a new grove for the rings. I don't care to have any extra length of unsupported scope base hanging out there than necessary. A little satin black spray paint and you are good to go. 44 Man

Redfield 2-7x33 Scope came in today. Nice fit and finish and crystal clear. Zeroed the reticle in the mirror, was off a few clicks, and mounted it using a DNZ Game Reaper mount. Checked allignment with a laser bore sight and is about dead on. Now to get it outside and do a final 25yd. laser bore sight and take it to the range and dial it in. Since I play drums in a local band (and we have a gig tonight) and bow season opens tomorrow (and i'm can't wait to try out the new longbow) its probably going to be a few days...lol...I will post an update later.

I find the mount to be well bade, but a bit tall, but useable. The scope clear and brite at a great price.

You can get the mounts from "SWFA". It is a DNZ Game Reaper, they come in high and extra high. I used the high mount and it is about perfect.

I bought the same scope and the extra high DNZ mount from Midway for my .44 Mag. I don't have it dialed in yet but I plan to leave it until after hunting season and hunt with another rifle this year...

I have both the Redfield Rev. 2-7x32, a couple Weaver Classic v7's, and the Weaver 4x shotgun scope (that really is a rifle scope, paralex at 100yds, just a bunch of eye relief) and for the money they are all excellent scopes. All work on the Handis really handily. Probably the 4x comes in with just a tad better clarity and resolution. I am happy with all of them.

Going to try a nikon omega muzzleloader scope, may have to work up a side by side comparison for them all one day.
