WASHING UR FURS ?????

TRAPPERS I NEED HELP--IF UR FURS NEED WASHING---SHOULD YOU WASH THEM BEFORE  FLESHING  OR AFTER---  I FORGOT

I usually fur comb my dirty furs  first and then flesh and wash...  If furs arent dirty i still fur comb and then flesh

If I got a critter that is a real mess I usually rinse them and let the dry enough to skin. I have and old clothes drier I throw them in after skinning and tumble them with a bucket of sawdust. That usually cleans them up pretty good. I do this mostly with coon, but I've tumbled rats and coyotes too. If your going to tumble something that don't need a big rinse. You still have to comb out burs and big mud balls. I tried tumbling rats once without skinning them first. Big mistake as their teeth and claw cut the hides up. Only did that once.

if yur washing long haired furs, but a big ole dollop of your old ladys conditioner in the rinse and let it set a few min. makes them silky smooth!

Yeppers on hillbills suggestion.  Buy cheap  horse hair conditioner, does same thing and da lady wont be miffed when her bottle of hair conditioner is gone or full of coon fat!!!

well wash after yu flesh but dont flesh with mud and stuff in the fur, it will make high spots when yur fleshing and yu will cut holes in it with the fleshing knife.are yu freezing or streching them?

not a lot of people around here actually put their furs up on boards anymore.its a lot of work for sure.i used to do it and there is nuttin like looking at a properly put up fur.mink and fox were my favorite furs to put up.but that may of been because back in the day either one was worth a full days pay.respect to ya for doin it the old way!
