as with all places of carry if you do it correct who will know unless you use it. And if you use it then right or wrong it was good to have it.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

For what it is worth the only church shooting that I am aware of, at least in Kansas was the killing if George Tiller in Wichita. If I was to guess most of you would not have bothered to draw you weapon to try and stop that shooting.

The US averages just under 2 Church shootings every year, and has for over a decade...

those figures do not include all the other types of attacks that happen inside churches.. (knives, clubs, fists, etc...etc..)..

Church related violence has shown a steady curve upward for over 2 decades and hasnt really gotten much better recently despite the efforts by a large percentage of congregations to try to mitigate the common threats..

According to one study, there have been 346 incidents that have involved someone dying as a result of homicide, suicide, and aggressors killed in the act of commiting violent crimes in churches since 1999.. this would include fire bombs, arson, and other acts though)..

Every church I have gone to, at one time or another, the preacher tells the congregation that statistically, church is the safest place to be on Sunday morning.

Accound to mdwest the numbers are closer to 29 a year.  Slightly higher than 2.  As someone who is in church every time the doors open I have seen people come in drunk, high and with severe mental instabilities.  While I would like to assume it would never happen at my church I am prepared in case it does.

He's very mistaken.  There is normally so much drama behind the scenes that a shooting is highly likely.

The churches you are apparently familiar with are very different than the ones I've attended.

Oh, and if as you put it "a shooting is highly likely" there would be more of them, wouldn't there?

In no way saying churches are dangerous, but it only takes one shooting to ruin your day, and I doubt anybody wants to find themselve's in that one bad situation empty handed and defenseless. I'm sure no one goes to church expecting a shooting but they do happen and that's enough of a reason to  carry insurance. I don't go anywhere expecting trouble, but I go everywhere expecting it could happen.

so far they have been right at the churches I have been a member of.
we might get sideways over the color of new carpet, but it never gets physical.
getting run over in the parking lot is a greater risk at my church than getting shot.

Everybody sleeping with and cheating on everybody.

Don't know what churches you have been going to Swampy but your statement is far from the truth at any church I have ever belonged to.

You just didn't look hard enough or wait long enough.

Well I've only belong to four churches my entire life.   Grew up in a Lutheran church.  I was a kid then so maybe I was unaware of such things going on there.  Second and third churches I belonged to were American Baptist Churches, one in Connecticut for the three years I lived there and the other in New Jersey for approx. sixteen years I lived there.   By this time I was an adult and pretty active within the church so I had a pretty good handle on what was going on.  I was an ordained Deacon in the church in NJ.  I'm currently a member of a Southern Baptist Church here in North Carolina.   Again pretty active in the church so I have a fairly good handle on what's going on.  No rampant bed hopping such as you describe going on in any of them that I am aware of.

In fact the only common thread that I have seen in all of the churches I have been involved in is bickering over finances.   Do we spend the money on this program or that program or save it in case the old boiler gives out?   I have observed that the divisions are usually broken down among age groups.  The younger folks want to see the money spent on programs for younger families and youth,  middle aged folks tend to want to spend the money on improvements to the facilities or property acquisitions and the older folks who grew up during the depression want to hold onto the money in case of some unforeseen emergency.

That would be a prerequisite for me to consider attending or joining a church.

I wouldn't make it a prerequisite, but it might break a tie if the churches were otherwise equal.

My Pastor and his wife (65 and 67 years of age) both may at any given time carry.  As does our new Co-Pastor and his wife (both 25).  Of our 5 Elders 3 of us have ccw's and may at any given time carry.  I know we have probably a dozen or more in our church that might carry on any given time.

To be honest I am not sure what I think scripture says, concerning this, or if you look into the history of the church, including the severe martyr periods (new testament).  It does not prohibit military, governmental law etc.   But I am not so sure what God's view is concerning self defense etc...when facing persecution/martyrdom because of being followers of Christ. I submit Christ's example Isaiah 53.  This is certainly not a matter to be discussed on this forum, but just a thought.

I have done it.  I have never inquired about the churches security measures. That might be good idea.

I am concerned about security everywhere, all the time.  A church gathering is like any other large group of people that can be a target for loonies.
Even before I got my ccw permit friends and a relative that were and are policemen taught me a lot about people watching and situational awareness. The same rules apply in church.  Not everyone is your brother.

If a person is either angry enough or crazy enough, or both, to shoot someone do you realy think they care where they do it? Maybe they care in some cases but certainly not in most and that's plenty enough reason to carry everywhere you go. If criminals obeyed the law they wouldn't be criminals now would they?
