Henry or Marlin.

I have an itch for a new 22.  I go through this new gun itch about once a year right before hunting season.  I know I have a problem.  I already have a 10/22 thats shoots .5" at 50 yards.  I'm thinking about a Henry H001 or a marlin XT-22.  I'm kinda of partial to the lever action for my next rifle.  This will be a squirrel hunting rig with a 4x32 compact scope.  Hoping to get .5" to .75" groups at 50 yards.  My old marlin 980T never would group below 1.25".

I felt that same itch about three months ago.
Needed to scratch it with a lever gun. Don't decide until you've fondled a Henry H001T (octagon barrel).
Academy doesn't carry them, only LGS's, but I thought it was worth the extra money.

Gotta love a lever gun. My dad has a Marlin and I have a Henry. Both shoot very well. All I can say is that I am more than happy with my Henry. It is one very accurate rifle.

  It seems the Marlins just aren't what they use to be, i chose to go the Henry lever route, and i think i made a good choise as they work perfectly.

I'm really leaning towards the Henry.  It's a nice looking light rifle.  Add some sling studs and a scope and it'll be perfect.  I like the H001T, but it looks a little on the heavy side.  I'm going to take PowPows advice and atleast handle one.

Go with the Henry. You won't regret it and their Customer Service is as good as it gets should you have need of it.

roger that. Mine had a loose mag tube. I was convinced it was a bad carrier. They sent me a new carrier no charge. Let me figure out that wasn't it. Then sent me a shipping label to send it back. they said 30 days to fix. it was only about 7.

I have some Marlin 39's out of the 1970's and 1980's. And, I have two Winchester/Miroku 9422's. All supurbly crafted rifles.

If someone even brought one of those cheap, cheap, cheap Henry's close to me, I throw rocks at the Cretin...

Sorry, but that is just how I feel... Henry's just aren't a quality firearm, regardless of their customer service.

So STUMP. with the options presented, you can:
1. dip into your trust fund or skip a few car payments and buy a supurbly (sic) crafted rifle.
2. hop into your time machine and buy a new supurbly (sic) crafted rifle new.
3. join the rest of us Cretins who bought a reasonably priced rifle that meets the intended purpose. It will either outlast you or you will have had a lot of fun wearing it out. Then you still have options 1&2 available.
 
While I have only had my Henry 3 months, I have taken it out in public and have not had rocks thrown at me yet.
Some people buy Kia instead of Cadillac because they just want to get somewhere now.

PowPow,  I agree with you.  I buy utilitarian  style guns.  They don't have to be pretty just perform their intended purpose well.

Lurker,  The 94/22's are gone.  Sometimes they show up used for a premium.  Same thing goes for the 39A.   This leaves very few options for a lever.  A Browning or Henry.  I do respect your opinion on the rifle, but no need for throwing rocks.

I am probably going to go the Henry Route.  They seem like a good company.  I've never owned a Henry and I want to try one out.

here are my marlins and all were bought used in mint condition for less than a henry and they will be shooting long after the henry has been retired. eastbank. ps this young man will get the marlins.

I went gun fondling tonight after dinner with the wife.  I looked at the Henry H001, H001T and the golden boy.  Also, looked at a browning BL-22.  All were very nice guns.  The Henry's were very smooth, with very good fit and finish.   I liked the short throw lever on the browning but it had a $499 price tag.  I foresee a Henry in my near future.  I will probably end up with the H001 for $259.  The H001 was $349.

As an avid Marlin fan, I'd get the Henry.  The 39As are problematic and finicky.

I owned a Henry,plain blued model.Even with a scope the accuracy was very poor at 50 yds.Tried alot of different ammo and things didn't improve.My Marlin is very accurate at 50 yds.

Sometimes that's the luck of the draw.  I have had guns that shot well and some that I couldn't hit a barn with.  I had a marlin 981T it would only do 1.5" at 50 no matter what bullet I shot.  One of my 10/22's shoots 1.5" at 50 while the other shoots .5".  The .5" group is because of a green mountain barrel and a houge stock.  I was reading up on the XT-22 and a lot of bad stuff.  I know the old model 25 used to be good.

5 years ago I wanted a Marlin 39. I went and looked at them and came away with a Henry H001T octagon barrel model. Only things I have done to it are to put a Williams reciever site and a taller  fron Williams fire sight I swapped the original site out for a folding 10/22 rear site to use as a backup. I dont regret my decision. Its a great rifle.

I brought the wife with me looking at guns Friday night.  When I went to go get it Saturday she said I couldn't, that I had to wait until Christmas.   :'( .  I'm either getting the Henry H001 or the H001T.

Thats the way it goes sometimes! ;)  But CHRISTmas isnt that far away. Take my word for it, if you get the Henry you wont be dissappointed. They are great quallity guns. I can dot all the I's and Cross the T's out to 50+ yards with mine.

I have a Marlin. It's accurate and has never had a problem. MY son-in-law has a Henry. I don't know the model number, just that it has the brass plated receiver and metal sights. It has been trouble free also and is accurate. I've shot it and that action is smooooth. I'm not going to trade my Marlin for one but I wouldn't mind owning a Henry.

This is my straight shootin' Henry.  I wasn't sure whether to buy a Mossberg or Henry but went with Henry largely because of the walnut stocks instead of birch.  My Henry's action is slick as teflon and shoots dime sized groups at 50 yards.

Tr what kind of scope do you have on it?  It's a good fit.  I was looking at a leupold 2-7x28.
