I seldom ever miss one.  To watch the shooters gets boring after the first trip or two.  If it rains it is a real swamp to park and usually becomes four wheel drive or better unless you park on the road and walk in.  You'll find the most reasonable prices on ammo and components of any show around so take plenty of cash.  I'm picking up an order from one of the suppliers as he comes in tomorrow so I don't have to pick it up there and it saves shipping costs and hazmat. 


I usually go on Friday morning but have other obligations this time and won't be there til Saturday with my son so we can look for those things we just can't live without.  Cell service from most providers is spotty at best so don't depend on a phone while there. 


It's a good time for the first timer so enjoy.

GUYS, please post your experiences while there and pics would be nice too. I only live 30 miles or so from there. I've been to the range but never the machine gun shoot, I hate crowds. I traveled 44 one weekend it was held and no way would get into that mess. Our pastor lives real close to it, BP season was in this weekend, he went several counties away. HEH, I'd imagine there would not be a deer within many miles of there. I eagerly await the reports. POWDERMAN.

Charlie, I no longer pay too much attention to the firing lines after going there for so many years.  I no longer shoot competition and haven't for about 20 years and let's face it, competition is for participants not spectators.  Like most others, I go for the show.  It has proven to be the best place to buy supplies such as reloading components, ammo, gun parts for military styled guns and other items you may have a hard time finding anywhere else.  Even then it is not a place to buy small amounts. 


If you want to see pictures go to their site and you can see all the pics and video you want.  They try to restrict photography as much as possible since that is another form of income for the business.


I went early Saturday morning just to pick up specific items and left shortly after everything was opened to the public.  It was going to be a beautiful day and the crowd was going to be massive.  I usually go Friday mornings and get out early to miss the crowds and will have to try to stick to this from now on.


It will be interesting to hear comments from 45-70 since this is his first time to attend.

That old cannon shakes the ground but the most impressive thing there is the mini.  You can hear the whirrr of the mini over everything but the cannon no matter where you are around the property.

I went to the knob creek gunshop today. I wanted to swap my new stoeger 20 ga sxs with xtra chokes, an uplander, beautiful but heavier than I like. He had a 20 ga sxs, 28 in f&m 2 3/4 in chambers made for montgomery wards by stevens, just what I wanted, $300, OUCH. He offered me $150 for my gun, I paid over $300 a year ago, it's been fired 5 times, 4 rt bbl, 1 left. GRRRRR, thats 2x I've gone there with the same results, never again. I reckon he made plenty off the machinegun shoot. He just doesn't seem to care if he makes a sale or not. POWDERMAN.

The shoot has nothing to do with it.  Right now no local shop will offer you more than 50%, if even that much, either in trade or to buy outright.  Orion, G2G, and others around here have folks coming in trying to sell off whole collections at once.  Prices have to go down to make things even.  I'm not going much higher myself.

we stayed at the quality inn   in brooks
then visited family in asheville nc on sunday


we have decided it is something we want to see again
