great looking gun swampy! If i was going to add to it id get those throats reamed get an action job done and maybe fit a clements post front sight and a belt mountain base pin to prevent pin jumping. One of my favorite sixguns is my 44 mag 4 5/8s super set up like that and the only other thing i did to it was fit a aluminum grip frame and ejector housing and have my neighbor bead blast it. It took quite a it of weight off. But for some guys weights not a bad thing as it does absorb some recoil. Ive got many full blown custom sixguns but that super that i put together myself gets used more then any of them.

Good looking piece.  Good photo.  Mine is stock, 4 5/8.  Only thing I did to it was put a little white paint at the top of the front sight.  Makes a big difference in the woods.  My favorite load is a 300 grain hard cast over 2400.  Almost the same hole at 25 yards.  When I discovered that particular load, I made up several hundred.  That was years ago, and I've forgotten how much powder I used.  I reckon I'll have to pull one and weigh it, except I've still got plenty left.  The biggest buck I ever killed with a handgun was with that load.  I'm ashamed to say he came within 20 yards of my tree stand and layed down.  Who would shoot a deer while he's trying to take a nap?  A nasty bit of business, that.  Like shooting a grouse on the ground.  My point is, when the big bullet hit him, he got up, then immediately fell over.  A .45 Colt is what a .44 Magnum wishes it was.

Does the leading causing it to lose accuracy?  I'm fixing to open up cylinder throats but my gun shoots fine.

Lots of things could cause this..

What is your lead/alloy mix?
What is your powder charge?
What is bullets diameter? I assume your running them as cast diameter...
What is you lube?

 Nice pistol Swampy!!
As always even NICE(R) PICS!!  ::)

The 45 Colt is near and dear to my heart too! I need to get mine out for some good pics too!! I have a couple Rugers but mine are all Blued and longer barrels. I had a 3 screw 5.5 that someone shortened, but sold it. I have a Vaquero 5.5" and a Bisley 7.5 that all decked out with a action job, base pin free spin pawl and steel ejector. Shoots better then most people shooting a rifle! I have always thought about sendign it out for a 5 shot cylinder and octagon with front site band barrel.

I also have a couple US Firearms that are nice lead bullet shooters! A black powder framed 5.5" beauty, a 4.5 std frame and a Bisley 7.5" too.

I have a Mitchell with a brass frame that's been back to Uberti for a refresh as the PO liked to dry fire and dimpled the frame so it would not fire live rounds as the firing pin made a impression in the recoil shield!! Its a short 4.5" barrel and feels perfectly balanced in the hand and holster.. The PO was quite a "hack" as he also bent the front site to make it shoot to point of aim... I left it as it does shoot straight and kinda adds "character"... ::)

I dont shoot heavy loads, but used to get some leading in some guns even at mid-range cast bullet loads. Since I started using larger dia. expanding plugs in the dieset (most come with a plug too small a dia. for holding the right neck tension on unerdia. jacketed bullets) the leading went away regardless of alloy.

im using straight wheel weight lead.
about 7 grns of reddot if i remember correctly
bullets measure .452
im useing alox on a lee tumble lube bullet.
accuracy falls off rapidly as it leads up. ive checked the cylinder throats by tapping a lubed bullet thru the cylinder with a wood dowel. it is really tight and yu have to whack it pretty good to get it thru.all that is makeing me think its the throats.

Wow, that is a fine looking BH. I LIKE the grips  8) . I've decided that as my years advance I truly enjoy adjustable sighted guns more so than fixed sights. I still have a couple early model Vaqueros, but I've been thinking of selling them and replacing them with a couple Blackhawks. Seeing this one just strengthens the resolve. However I see I'll have to do a little more research as I wasn't aware they were gender specific... ;D

P.S. I'm not sure, but I think all my guns are boys, where do you look to check... ::)

im in agreement with the above poster.if a handgun does not have adjustable sights, its really not worth much to me. anymore i wont even purchase one unless its so cheap i cant go wrong.
