Anybody Using a 27/308?
« on: January 10, 2004, 02:48:03 AM »
Thinking of building a 27/308 and using 130/140gr bullets. Should be very similar to the 7mm-08 and 260 but a widcat none the less. Anybody have or work with one? I like the 270 assort. of bullet styles available and the 27 caliber in general.

To save time ordering dies, call Redding and ask for the 270 Redding.  Articles about 10 years ago in Handloader magazine.   Check with them at riflemagazine.com for index and back issues.

I remember reading that article about the .270 Redding, a .308 necked down to .277  with a blown out shoulder.

What an impressive achievement.  With a full length action and a 24" barrel, special dies, and many hours of experimentation with handloads, he finally achieved the same ballistics that you can get with a standard factory, off the shelf .270 WCF with a 22" barrel and factory ammo.

The 270 Redding is a very fine Wildcat, unlike the 270-308 it has a 0.094" longer neck and a 30 deg shoulder angle and .460 shoulder diameter.
It will perform right along with the 270 Win. If you going for a Wildcat you may as well go for the best.  7mm-08 cases or 7x57 cases should work well. OAL is 2.800" and will fit well in a short Rem action.
