Man takes on almost 800-pound wild hog
« on: October 17, 2011, 09:54:13 AM »

[RUSH SPRINGS, Okla. -- A Rush Springs man had quite a fright after he was confronted by a nearly 800-pound wild hog. It happened Monday morning when he was hunting on property west of Rush Springs.

"We'd seen his tracks, but we'd never seen him," Winston Brown said. "I was sitting up in my tree stand waiting on the sun to come up."

And that's when he saw it.

"It looked like a cow coming from the other end," he said "It came up and the deer ran off."

They knew what was coming, a 760-pound wild hog...

Nuttin wild about that hog but the story. They don't get that big in the wild only in barnyards.

From the colors and markings it looks like a big domestic New Hampshire hog.

No doubt that it was once domesticated, but hogs are the only creatures that go feral in the same generation, it only takes 6 - 8 months.  Like guzzijohn stated, it looks like a New Hampshire pig, but it has gone wild, notice the tusks, and the extended snout, its been feral for a while.

I've seen domestic hogs, raised in the pen with 2 - 3" cutters.  My Pawpaw always tried to avoid whatever breed that was, (Arkansas), I can't remember.  But sometimes he would raise one.  Any of them, domestic or not can be dangerous, and should be respected.  I am much more cautious of a pig than a cow.  This just does not strike me as a feral.  Just too big unless someone has been feeding him....

Yep , somebody's Hampshire or hampshire cross got loose a while back for sure. Doesn't take too long for tusks to grow. My wife's little pot belly (pet) has to have his tusks cut down at least twice a year. My guess that
fella is approx 5-6 years old and was grain fed.
