Paper patched .308" bullets in .311" caliber?
« on: October 17, 2011, 09:00:21 PM »
I once read an article about paper patching bullets by Ross Seyfreid in Guns & Ammo, in which he related having paper patched  Nosler .308" bullets for use in an 8mm mauser with a .318" bore for which bullets were impossible to find.

I would like to do the same thing 7.65x53 (Argentine) which has a .311" bore.  Why couldn't you paper patch and use .308 Nosler partitions in the same way that Seyfreid did for the .318" bore?

Although there is a good selection of .311 bullets, Nosler does not make .311" bulelts and I like the idea of being able to use 150, 165, 170 RN, 180 and 200 grain Partitions in the 7.65 Argentine.    Anyone  have any thoughts on this?

You are not going to find any paper that will add .003" to your bullet with two wraps. It just doesn't come that thin. If you want to shoot jacketed bullets in that rifle, just buy the right size ones or make/buy a swage die set to bump up 30 cal. ones.

Now then, if you want to shoot cast bullets, now you are talking! Cast them soft, size to a couple thou over bore diameter, patch to whatever fits the throat and fits a fired case properly, load and shoot at full whack with good accuracy. (Once you learn all the tricks that is)

But for the easiest and quickest solution, just buy the right bullets (like Privi from Graf's)

Buy the right bullets?  You might be on to something there.

Nosler may not make many .311 bullets but you could upgrade to a Sierra.

Upgrade  :o  ................................ hmmmmm I would not call that an upgrade myself. Due to a 180 grain Pro Hunter coming apart on a 35lb Roe Does ribs at about 90 yards from my .308 Brno ZKK 601 I avoided using Sierra bullets fro years. Never had te problem with either Nosler, Hornady or Speer bullets.

So I would call that down grading.
