Hunting NH Moose. So far, no luck...
« on: October 19, 2011, 09:44:40 AM »
We hunted hard for three days straight with no luck. We did see one small cow which was last year's calf. I did not want to shoot that although I could.
This zone is tough. The moose are spread out and it is after the moose rutting season. It seems that I cannot find any fresh sign. Everything is a week or two old. That calf seemed to be an oddity rather than something with regularity.
My guide friend told me that we probably walked a good six miles through the woods. We walked through inclined clear cuts, swamp and marsh edges as well as through mixed woods.
I will post more in detail in the near future. I will hunt the remainder of the season starting Thursday afternoon until Sunday evening, unless I drop the hammer of the Contender on a nice moose earlier than that.
