Prosecuting kids as adults
« on: October 19, 2011, 11:46:41 AM »
There's a news story today about a 12 year old kid that may be tried as an adult for a murder. What do you think about that?

I think these need to be handled on a case by case basis, and age should not be much of a criterion. There are some ten year old kids that are practically adults because they've grown up on the streets without much parental influence. There are some hardened criminals that are barely teenagers.

Do you think this system of trying kids as adults is being abused?

NO, I don't think it's being abused, not used often enough. A 12 yr old today can kill you just as dead as a 40 yr old man, and  he'll do it quicker with less remorse. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

We have had a few stories in the past around here. One the kid wanted to see what it was like to kill someone. Another teenager wanted to see what it was like to shoot someone.

Case by case yes. Abused policy? NO

From my perspective as a 4 decade LEO-given what the youth of today know-your 3 yr old grandchild can program your DVR-it is entirely appropriate. They lack our generations values and mores, lack the homelife we enjoyed as children 40-50 yrs ago-and we are reaping the rcrops of the great democratic society.

By nine YO most know the difference between right and wrong. That is also meant to say that some, even at that age don't give a rats butt. If ya go out and kill with that intent, wether it be to see what it's like, or because a kid has better shoes, bike, ? , you're a killer and should be tried as such.

Good post and true. Too many kids are raised by sgl parents. By the time they are 10 yrs old they've seen murders, rapes, beatings, adultery, sex outside of marriage, shackups, disrespecting parents, backtalk, etc, thousands of times on the good ol boob tube and they call it entertainment. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

There was a kid in DC when I lived there, I believe he was 10.  Took a gun to class, aiming to shoot the principal.  Kid openly admitted to other kids and teachers he was going to shoot principal.  Gun was found, once police showed up kid clammed up, wanting an attourney.  Kid was sent to juvanial court.  Judge released him to his Mother, saying he was too young to go to prison, or stay in Juvinal center.  DC schools expelled him, said he could no longer attend DC schools period.  Mom sent him to live with big sister in Maryland.  Knowing he would be crosschecked and found out in public school sister enrolled him in private school.  Said nothing of his past.

Second day of school kid had gotten hold of another gun.  Took it to school shot and killed the principal.  This time he was tried as an adult.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
