Got my Grizzly back today/Updated with pictures
« on: October 19, 2011, 09:37:32 PM »
Picked up my Grizzly hide from the taxidermist today.  Good looking flat mount.  Wife said to take down one print to put it on the wall.  No, not going to work.  Took down two prints, Caribou rack, and a pair of snow shoes.  Covers the entire wall area behind the sofa.  Wife was shocked at how big it is.  6'6" nose to tail.  7' even across the front legs, claws to claws.  I'll post a picture, tomorrow.

Frank Borba, F&E Taxidermy here in North Pole.  Frank does the head work, his wife Evalen does the sewing.  Frank said he is retired, claimed to be two years ago.  But since Norman and I have been taking him stuff since the mid 80s, he keeps helping us out.  Frank does real good work on Bears.

OK, I'm working on it.  Having trouble uploading them on to My Hosted Pics.  I hate windows 7.  I had everything figured out with XP.

This is the Grizzly bear I shot two years ago.  I made a 620 yard shot.  First shot hit just behind the left shoulder, complete pass through.  Bear turned to run, second shot hit her in the spine, just behind the shoulders.  She rolled behind a bush.  Then I could see her head and front shoulders, she was looking around, trying to spot me.  Third shot hit her in the neck, killing her instantly.  The first shot had turned her heart and lungs to jello, but she was able to run 45 yards before the second shot broke her spine.

The cleaned skull

The skull opened, the teeth are in my ears.

And while I was downloading, I ran across this picture of someone we all know.  He was in Alaska last spring.  We met for lunch then I took him out to see the Alaska Pipe Line.  Dinny, if you want a copy let me know.  Rog

338/378 Weatherby Accumark right out of the box, no modification or customizing. I was using a 3X15X50 Night Force scope.  250gr Nosler Partition in front of 99grs IMR 7828.  Range was a true 620 yards, with a 20 deg down angle.  Dialed for 580 yards corrected.

One other thing, in the picture of the claws over my hand.  About 1/3 rd of the claws are covered by hair.  My thumb is against the toe.  Hide has some bad spots, but they are hard to see.  Big scar just behind the nose, gives it charector.  You can tell she had been in a fight.  Also the skull Frank used is smaller than the real one due to shrinkage.  that is her real skull I am holding.  As you might notice a Grizzly can get a person's whole head inside their mouths.  They have the power to crush a skull, but usually just rip off the scalp and face.

When I brought it home I made pictures then rolled it up and put it in the back bedroom, till we rearrange prints and other things on the wall behind the sofa.  This afternoon the wife fell asleep on the sofa.  Sky pushed the foot stool over in front of her.  He then went and got the bear rug.  Placed the head on the foot stool, with the rest down on the floor.  Sky then came outside helping me in the yard.

When we finished in the yard we were coming in the front door when I heard her scream.  Not just once, but three times.  She went to backing up on the sofa, fell down between the sofa and the recliner.  The way she fell she was pinned between the sofa and recliner with her feet up in the air.  I ran in and moved the recliner, so she could get down on the floor.  When she came up off that floor, she went to calling me names, bad names too.  She just knew I did it.  The bear has to go, she will not allow it to stay in her house.  She has been running around holding her chest, saying we caused her to have a near heart attack.  She claims she has had chest pains since.  Sky admitted he did it, but she does not believe him.  If he did it she thinks I put him up to it.

We rolled it up and placed it on the rocker in the living room.  Now she claims it's too scary to sit and look at.  She says she and it can not stay under the same roof this winter.  I told her she will have a hard time finding a place to stay this late in the season.  Heck, I figured since I'm already in hot water, may as well go for the limit.

Give her a week, she'll get over it.  I did pull Sky aside and told him not to pull a prank on her like that again.  She says she will get even, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe next month, but she will get even.  Don't think she will fall asleep on the sofa again any time soon.  It's been four hours and she is still angry.  Sky left, maybe I should go away till tomorrow.
