ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Afghanistan would support Pakistan in case of military conflict between Pakistan and the United States, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said in an interview to a private Pakistani TV channel broadcast on Saturday.
The remarks were in sharp contrast to recent tension between the two neighbors over cross-border raids, and Afghan accusations that Pakistan was involved in killing the chief Afghan peace envoy, former Afghan president Burhanuddin Rabbani, by a suicide bomber on September 20.
"God forbid, If ever there is a war between Pakistan and America, Afghanistan will side with Pakistan," he said in the interview to Geo television.
"If Pakistan is attacked and if the people of Pakistan needs Afghanistan's help, Afghanistan will be there with you."
Such a situation is extremely unlikely, however. Despite months of tension and tough talk between Washington and Islamabad, the two allies appear to be working to ease tension.
In a two-day visit to Islamabad, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton issued stern warnings and asked for more cooperation in winding down the war in Afghanistan, but ruled out "boots on the ground" in North Waziristan, where Washington has been pushing Pakistan to tackle the Haqqani network.
The Haqqani are a group of militants Washington has blamed for a series of attacks in Afghanistan, using sanctuaries in the Pakistani tribal region along the Afghan border.
Pakistan is seen as a critical to the U.S. drive to end the conflict in Afghanistan.
Pressure on Islamabad has been mounting since U.S. special forces found and killed Osama bin Laden in May in a Pakistani garrison town, where he apparently had been living for years.
The secret bin Laden raid was the biggest blow to U.S.-Pakistan relations since Islamabad joined the U.S. "war on terror" after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
Karzai said tensions between the United States and Pakistan did not have any impact in his country's attitude toward Pakistan.
The TV channel, Geo, did not say when the interview was conducted.
Afghans have long been suspicious of Pakistan's intentions in their country and question its promise to help bring peace. Karzai repeated that concern in his remarks.
"Please brother, stop using all methods that hurt us and that are now hurting you.
"Let's engage from a different platform, a platform in which the two brothers only progress toward a better future in peace and harmony," he said.
Following the death of Rabbani, Karzai said he would cease attempting to reach out to the Afghan Taliban and instead negotiate directly with Pakistan, saying its military and intelligence services could influence the militants to make peace.

Unlike America's "leaders" (sorry, I had to go throw up after refering to those maggots as our "leaders"), Karzi and all the Muslim leaders know who they support. they support Islam first, last and always. America's gifts and sacrifice didn't buy us friendship or loyalty. It bought us contempt bacause it was seen as pandering. They hate us. They are clear and consistent on that point. Sure, they will accept our largesse. Take the gift with a smile and look down on us the whole time. America's political establishment just doesn't get it. That's why we aren't at war with Islam. The Islamic world as a whole is at war with us, but we certainly aren't at war with The Religion of Peace. We live in a dream world where we aren't at war with them and if we hope and dream hard enough maybe, just maybe we can make them like us. Unfortunately that's the sort of dream you wake up from when the blade slices into your wind pipe.

So, if we go to war with the perenial enemy of a country we just spent our longest war trying to help; of course they will stab us in the back. It's a matter of faith. They are Muslim and we are (as a nation) not.

we need to pull out of the middle east. you can't change a raghead. when the last soldier leaves iraq there will be a bloodbath. same with afganistan.
look at egypt, they said they wanted freedom but now they are denying freedom to Christians.
libya will be the same way. qadufus was captured alive but the raghead mob executed him.
they will end up just like iran.

We are a foreign occupying military power in Iraq and Afghanistan, one can hardly expect them to love us. They see us as the enemy just as we see them and it is their country after all. Bring our troops home and station them on the Mexican border, that will make the US safer without creating millions more people who hate us. Every day we are there we just create more enemies, we really can't kill them all.

That being said, I seriously doubt China would go to war with the US. All they have to do is dump all those US bonds on the open market and the American economy collapses like a house of cards.

Karzai is not a friend to the US.. he never has been.. he does like that the US is providing him protection however.. the struggle is he is corrupt and wants the protection of the US on his terms only..

Karzai is also not a friend to the Pakistanis.. he never has been.. He does however want to keep the peace with them.. he knows that when the US pulls out (whether that is in 2 years.. or in 20), that Pakistan is going to become much more overtly active in removing the current Afghan regime and replacing it with one more friendly towards its causes (Taliban.. or something similar with a new name)..

If the US "attacked" Pakistan.. Karzai would do nothing.. except issue alot of fiery rhetoric.. he lacks the political clout with his own people, and lacks the military capacity to participate at any level.. he knows it.. we know it.. the pakistanis know it..

all of his talk.. is just like the talk he was doing last year.. and the same talk he was doing the year before that.. just hot air... when the chips are down.. he folds EVERY TIME.. he loves to spout nonsense up to the last minute though.. and always has..

as for him liking to breathe.. and thats why he does this..

Karzai has a well thought out exit plan from Afghanistan.. he has been hoarding millions upon millions of dollars in banks in Dubai and other places in the middle east.. he and several of his family members already own very large homes in Dubai.. as soon as it looks like he cant retain power any longer.. he will leave office, and retire in Dubai.. in a multi-million dollar house that NATO and the US paid for (by allowing his corruption).. and fade away..

no different than Idi Amin, Jean Bertrand Aristide, and a handful of other corrupt dictators that have stolen from their countries and their allies.. then flown off to a non extradition country once they can no longer retain power..

He wont go the way of Quadaffi...

I think you are confused.. Tarpley is a career journalist.. who has written for a number of liberal publications since the 1970's.. He lived in Europe and worked as a reporter and journalist there through the 1980s.. and became pretty heavily influenced with European style socialism and labor partys..

He has never been an employee of any US inteligence agency.. and to my knowledge never been an employee of the US government in any capacity..

I actually look for this scenario to happen, for any particular reason. With the US having a defend treaty with Taiwan, it would be the ultimate "in yo face" provocation by china. Attacking china's "allies", defaulting on loan,forcing revalueation of the yuan......any reason.

Me thinks the Taiwan treaty would go with the wind if china attacked/re claimed Taiwan. The USA is going to war with china on their soil? Can't do it financially or logistically without nukes. China is going to attack US soil? Not without logistical support from ? Nope. China could take back Taiwan anytime it wants. The US would back down in my estimation.
