357 Magnum barrel fitted to one of your SB2 receivers. Just add a reamer rental and the rest is history.... ;)

Thanks, Dinny

Everyone should have a 30-30 and a 22" 45-70, 45 Colt Carbine would be nice too, but they're getting harder to find since they haven't been made since 2008, Bud's still has em in stock tho, it sure would make a real purty Christmas gift.  ;)

I agree with Tim and Dinny... The 357 Mag and 30-30 are eye teeth of the handi lineup!

Unfortunately that deal is no longer available, it's $267 now.  :-\

The Maxi is hard to beat.  Reloading, you can shoot .38s all day for peanuts, .357s don't cost much more to reload and the Maxi gives you a great little deer rifle.  The straight cases are easy to reload with carbide dies.

Even at $267 I would still go with the 444M.   It is the REAL supermag in the 44 cal rifle department. ;)   Just remember all my opinions are insightful and completely unbaised. ::)

I thought you were referring to this post a while back, Bud's had new 444s for a little while for that price, didn't last long tho. Are ya sure it's not 22"? I don't think they've made the 444 in a 20", just 22" blued and 24" SS.

H&R may have sold some test rifles, but I didn't think they did that, was told by the Marlin/H&R Marketing manager they didn't prior to 2009, but they may have changed their policy. Sounds like a good buy tho.  ;)

I've got two 444s, the 22" has a 2-7x32 Bushnell Legend on it, the other is a 20"(44mag rechambered) with a 2½x20 Leupold M8, my old eyes need optics.  ;)

I would advise some type of shotgun scope, they are very recoil resistant, long eye relief. The 444 is a great gun, my son's uses 46 gr of 4198 with the 240 gr JHP. I am still working on the cast loads, I have several that work well, just have to make some decisions.

I bought 3 of the New Redfields last year and have had zero problems with them.  One of them lives on top my 45-120 and takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin', my apologies to John Cameron Swayze.  All of mine have a 40 mm objective and they work very well in low light conditions for a relatively cheap scope.

Pick the calibers that you have an interest in, make a paper plate into pie slices and label them as such and throw a dart........

Im not such a fan of the red dot in cold weather hunting... Most have a small battery and loose power quickly at freezing temps.

Spring turkey, combat or fun gun is a different story!!

I say get a good scope, my fav is a Leupold 2x7x32 matte and a shotgun version as suggested would be a very nice addition to a close range rifle as your proposing. I have one of the suggested Redfields and so far its is perfect at a good price point too!
