Looks to me like Dale just likes to piss and moan about things. Dale don't ever think you are the first one to go through what you are dealing with now. I did 35 years ago and guess what. I faced the fact and went on with my life.

I think DC is doing just that.  ever heard the old saying "when it rains, it pours."

I agree, lets encourage Dale. He has enough to deal with without kicking him when he's down.  ;)

I do agree with 45/70 though. Sounds like a good time to give up the coffin nails.  ;) Any of you guys ever watched anyone die with lung cancer? Not a pretty picture.

I don't think my boss will screw me out of my money. I have worked for him for 2 and 1/2 years and the have been times he has owed me more than this and paid me. He says he thinks he has 800 sq feet of Pergo flooring we can do next week and after I get paid for our current job I might just stay another week and do the Pergo because after I make the repairs to my truck that I need to and pay some other things I have to I will be strapped for cash and I don't want to leave here with just gas money in my pocket. Every day I sit around here waiting on these darn skylights is costing me money I can't afford to lose. Dale

I will say this Dale, if you come to Florida on the ragged edge. you may find yourself in a bad way. There are no gaurentees you can find work and when you are broke. You are alone.
I have never owned a vehicle that would run on air, or gone a week that I did not need food. Bills and needs dont stop because work does.
From the working base you have now, you may benefit by working to save enough, to get out of trouble if things did not work out.
Sometimes there are controllable reasons, we are where we are. If we change a few things, we can do a lot better.
I would bet everyone here has at some time or other worried about the next dollar and where to get it. I have, and made a decision to live without somethings... I have never missed, to get where I didn't have to worry.

I really don't think Dale will have too much trouble.

Sounds like good advise briarpatch, but he can't winter in Pensylvania in that travel trailer. At least I don't think he can. I never lived in a travel trailer in cold country but I've heard some real horror stories told by people who have.  ;) One lady tried to winter in the Talketinas up near Danili park, she said the Ice was 6" thick on the floor of her trailer when she fineally gave it up.  :o

He could stay a few more weeks if there is work though. bobg, glad you did not mean your comment in a bad way.. ;D

Yea my window of leaving is closing. We have already had nights like last night where it got down to 31 degrees.and the high for today is 49 degrees. I have worked all my life and have always managed to find work one way or another. It wont be much longer that the hose feeding my trailer will be freezing up. Dale

How long is the water hose? Is there any way you can put a heat tape on it till you can get things together and head to Florida?

I have 75 feet of hose leading to the trailer. I was thinking of heat tape the other day but decided against it. The plastic and straw idea would work well until it got real cold but I don't want to kill my landlords grass I'm sure he would get upset over that. I hope to be heading south before it gets to much colder though. I would like to know how that lady ended up with 6 inches of ice on the inside of her camper? ::)  For that to happen she must not have had heat and must of had a water line break on the inside of the trailer. Thanks and take care Dale

She did have a propane furnace in the trailer. Water was unhooked and blown out the lines with air but when it's 50 below the furnace just could not keep up.  :o She packed up what she could and abandoned the trailer and caught a ride into town. When I met her she was living in southeast alaska where it seldom gets below freezing. And never below zero.

Yeah I know, in the winter of 04 the coast guard boats froze in the harbor in Ketchikan.... :o

Well that explains a lot. When its 50 below zero I bet it was still 5 or 10 below zero with the furnace running all the time. These trailers were not built for such extreme cold. The walls are only 1 1/2 inches thick with hardly any insulation and the windows are not insulated glass. They do not even seal air tight. I am surprised she did not freeze to death. Thanks for shedding some light on it. Dale

I've spent part of a north central Florida winter in a Pop up trailer. Once was enough. Propane and electric heat kept us alive!! We graduated to a 24 footer RV and have it in the greater Branford area.

Even there it gets below freezing at times for more then one or two nights. We disconnected the water hose in the evening and drained it so we were good to go in the AM.

Cheapest way to keep a water hose from freezing is to bury most of it.  I have one buried at my hunting camp right now.  I have to replace it every other year, but it works.

That works on your own piece of dirt but would get you booted out in RV campgrounds that I have been to.

BTW. The first two places the hose freezes up is at the tap and the inlet on the trailer.

I have not left yet. I have about 2 hours of work in the morning to finish this job. I then have to wrap up a couple things here before I can leave but at this point it looks like I will be leaving here and heading to FL on Tuesday. The only thing that would keep me here for another week is if my boss has one of the jobs he has bids out on to come through before I leave. If that would happen I might just stay another week or so to make a little more money before I head south. Dale

The job is finally finished. This job dragged out like no other job ever has. It rained on this job more days than were dry and then we had the skylight issue. I am happy to say it's finished. Looks like I might not get paid for it until Monday though. It looks like I really am headed to Florida now very soon. Dale

Well my boss is meeting up with the home owner today to get payed for the job we just finished. At this point I see no reason that I won't be leaving for Florida tomorrow. I have to leave here in a few minutes to finish some work on one of my landlords houses. When I get payed today I have to run around and pay a few bills but other than that I am ready to go. I went up home this past Friday to go to my doctor and while I was up there I took my daughter to dinner at the Chinese restaurant. When I took her home I picked up my cat and brought him back to the trailer. So it is me and the cat living here now. The cat really missed me and I missed him also. It's nice to have him back and to have some company. So I think by this time tomorrow I should be on the road to Florida. Well take care Dale
