Sportsmans Guide

   Anyone ever buy one of their scopes? It is marked Guide Gear. It came in a Barska box. Marked 4-16x50. Put it on my H&R 17 HMR. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. Just wondering if i bought junk. Probably won't know that until i try it will i?

I believe guide gear scopes were originaly made for cabelas. I though i read somewhere that they were rebadged simons scopes but if its a barska i hate to say this but its not far from junk. Even so it may do just fine on something like a 17hmr

Cabela's has had an Alaskan Guide line of scopes for a store brand for a long time. I thought Sportsman's Guide was kind of ripping off the name when their Guide Gear showed up.

I've never had the courage to try a Guide Gear or Barska branded scope. They might be really good for all I know.

I have a Barska 3x9x40, it's an OK scope for a cheap scope, have it on My Handi 22-250, shoot 1/2" groups with it. No problems and it's clear.....

About 5 years ago, needed an inexpensive scope and bought a Sportsmans Guide Gear 3-12x50 scope.  Mind you, not a lot of rounds fired with it mounted on a centerfire rifle, but optics were decent and its held zero for me.

  Thanks folks. That is what i was looking for. Comments from people that have them. I have had the gun and scope for over 6 years and haven't shot it yet. Maybe i never will but the scope looks good on the gun. ;D

got two barska's one like yours other is a 3 x 9 no problems yet at least 2000 rnds down the tube 223-44mag. :D

I purchased one with a lighted retical and used it on a caribou hunt.
I mounted it on a .280 Handi, and had no problems at all. Held zero throughout sighting and practice.
