NO the sole goal of a company is Profit. Sorry an economic law.
If you have a company that makes or sell this or that and has an equal goal to making profit of something else then you are going to have a failed business. The same people that run these companies are the ones that live in the same places and they do not want to live in dirty air, have toxic water, or contaminated soil.
Reguardless of what you think no one wants dirty air, dirty water, and spoiled soil. There are limits. In order to make something, to clean something to build something you are going to disrupt things. The river in Ohio that caught on fire is an example of going to far. That's right a river caught on fire, twice I think.
Love Canal is too far. where a housing unit was built over a toxic dump.
Think of everything you use around your house. Soap, Shampoo, laundry detergents, all effect water quality.
The not in my back yard crowd, the no building, no manufacuring, and the misguided are the ones that want us to eat nuts and berries grown in a vacant lot or if you are going to do it make sure I can not see or smell it. The same group are the first ones to claim imment domain if they want a new school or museum.
The over exaduration of the polution and political gotcha's are causing more problems. When Clinton left he lowered the levels of arsnick allowed in drinking water to 10% of what was already a safe level. In doing so he made things like Apple juice unhealthy compared to water. Just by the trace elements in the apple. Much like the inside of a peach pit has arsnick in it.
He did it as a political move, he hoped Bush was going to void his mandate and keep the levels at the safe level. Thus the left can scream that Bush wants to kill people with dirty water by raising the toxic levels 900%.
The lead free laws in CA were done by a hag that was voted out and her clean water act is costing new construction, and replacement business 40% more, and the levels before were safe. Now instead of Bronze you have cast Iron. Cast Iron at 130 degrees with stagnent water breeds Legionella. Granted it needs to be stagnet for a log time.
Every time you go shooting are you poluting. Lead, chemicals, mercury, cleaning fluids, rags, patches, plastics, paper, fuel to get there, targets.....
In order to have perfect water and air we would have to do nothing. No work, not agraculture, no waiste at all.
The EPA in regulating things drives up the costs, driving up those costs is what is causing people to cheat nad cut corners to stay in business and do stupid things to compete with places like China and other communist states where there are no enviromental concerns.
Technology and the consummer are waht is going to make cleaner air, water, and soil. A company that uses clean as a marketing effect to gain profits will force others to do so and finally all will be doing it cleaner, if that is what the public is willing to pay for and sees clean as a value.
